Michael D. "Mike" Natter

1946 - 2023

Edgerton, WI - Michael "Mike" D. Natter, age 77, of Edgerton, passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023, at Agrace Center for Hospice & Palliative Care, Janesville. He was born in Edgerton on September 15, 1946, the son of M. LaVerne "Bid" and Magaret (O'Connor) Natter. Mike proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1968-1970, during the Vietnam era. He married Marcella "Marcy" L. Duerst on September 13, 1975, at Central Lutheran Church, Edgerton. He worked for the Rock County Sheriff's Office until his retirement in 2000, where he retired as a Lieutenant. Mike then returned a year later to work part-time in vehicle maintenance until he retired again after another 15 years. He loved being in law enforcement and mentored generations of future leaders and officers at the Sherrif's Office. He also taught hunters safety for 40 years and had a passion for sharing his knowledge with others. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, spending time at the cabin, and adventures on the Rock River. He had a special place in his heart for animals and children. He never went far without having a dog by his side or handing out gold Sacajawea dollar coins to his grandchildren, nieces, and nephews.

Mike is survived by his loving wife, Marcy; 2 children; Dawn (Roger Rygiewicz) Natter of Pardeeville and Shawn (Stacie) Natter of Evansville; 2 grandchildren; Mason and Marlie Natter; sister, Stelann Hallett of Fort Atkinson; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at Noon on Tuesday, December 19, 2023, at APFEL EHLERT FUNERAL HOME, 315 Lord St. (Hwy 51) Edgerton with Rev. Jim Johnson officiating. Visitation will take place on Tuesday from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Military Honors will be accorded at the funeral home following the service. Memorials may be made in Mike's name to the Rock County Sheriff's Office Hunter's Safety Program. Anyone wishing to donate to the Hunter's Safety Program, please specify this in your donation to the Natter Family so one donation in Mike's name can be presented to the Sheriff's Office.
