LORENA MARTINEZ Obituary

LORENA MARTINEZ Lorena Martinez, our beautiful, remarkable, brave, strong mother, passed away peacefully on June 28th, 2024, at the age of 103 at her home in Orting, Washington. Lorena was loved, well respected, Young at Heart, and true to herself. She was a beloved mother, cherished sister, proud grandmother/great grandmother, Aunt and trusted friend to those who were lucky enough to know her. Lorena leaves behind sisters: Flora Martinez, San Bernardino, CA, and Eva Delay, Cawker, KS, brother, Ramon Gonzalez, Garden City, KS, daughters: Michelle Martinez, Orting, WA and Beverly Curl, Denver, CO, son, Gary Martinez, Holcomb, KS, grandchildren: Jamie Martinez, Scott City, KS, Brittany Curl, Rocklin, CA, Jacqueline Martinez, Graham, WA, Karina Barret, Hays, KS, great grandchildren: Brevan Martinez, Lawrence, KS, Gabrielle Martinez, Scott City, KS, Kenzie Martinez, Scott City, KS, Locklynn and Ryker Barret, Hays, KS. Those who knew her will cherish the memories they shared with her. Her children will remember her repeated message to be responsible, get an education, and stand on our own two feet. Her grandchildren will remember her love, generosity, and her young at heart attitude to know exactly what they wanted. Lorena will be remembered by the many who came to her for counsel and support. Lorena loved music, sports, card playing, watching Masterpiece Theater, and enjoyed playing games with her family and friends. She was an avid reader and more adventurous than many of us knew; clam digging at 5 a.m., skating at the age of 72, salmon fishing, concerts, and travel all over the U.S. Lorena was a graduate of Garden City Community College and showed her work ethic in Garden City to the Airforce that was once stationed at the Airfield, The Garden City Telegram, the Garden City Courthouse and as a highly requested interpreter in court, and retired from Social and Rehabilitation Services. Lorena leaves a void that cannot be filled, her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us through the remainder of our lives. Details regarding a celebration of Lorena's long life will be communicated at a later date, and will be shared with close friends and family. Rest in Peace, Mom.
