ROSELYN NICKLAUS Obituary
ROSELYN NICKLAUS
Roselyn (Hull) Nicklaus, a cherished mother, wife, teacher, and community volunteer, passed away peacefully on July 22, 2024, in Denver, Colorado, at the age of 90. Born on March 11, 1934, in Emporia, Kansas, Roselyn dedicated her life to nurturing both her family and the numerous students she taught over the years.
Roselyn graduated from McPherson High School and later attended Emporia State University. She spent her career as an ESL teacher at Victor Ornelas School, where she was known for creating an inviting and effective learning environment, greatly enriched by her love of books. Roselyn's commitment to education extended beyond the classroom as she, alongside her husband Ed and the Almos family, played a pivotal role in organizing the Relay for Life events, contributing significantly to her community.
A voracious reader, Roselyn's passion for books was evident not only in her professional life but also in her personal interests. She found great joy in the simple pleasure of reading.
At the time of death Roselyn was survived by her loving husband, Edward Nicklaus; daughters, Deborah Nicklaus and Pamela Nicklaus (Steve Simpson); grandchildren, Andrew and Nathan Simpson (Kelsey Ann); and great-granddaughter, Stevie June Simpson. She also leaves behind her sister, Gloria Evans, and brother, Raymond Evans. Roselyn was preceded in death by her parents, Anna Mae and Cleve Hull.
A celebration of life for Roselyn and her husband Ed will be held at a later determined time in Garden City (and virtual). In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Garden City Community College Endowment Association for the Nicklaus Family Scholarship. This scholarship supports students entering medical fields, with a preference for first-generation students and alumni of Victor Ornelas Grade School.
Roselyn's legacy of kindness, education, and community service will continue to inspire those who knew her and many future generations.
