Brian Nicklaus Obituary
Obituary published on Legacy.com by Evans Funeral Home - Columbus on Dec. 9, 2025.
Brian David Nicklaus, a dedicated Master Mechanic, who brought the life back to many vehicles and engines throughout his life, passed away on December 4, 2025, at the age of 63 after a long illness. He was known for all of his mechanical skills, but he was especially gifted with electrical system knowledge. He loved a good electrical challenge. He was always willing to help anyone who rolled their way into the shop, who was stranded at a gas station, or who was referred by a friend or family member. Brian was a long-time member of St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church in downtown Columbus, and served on Consistory, as well as Usher squad with many of his good friends.
Born in Columbus, OH on November 8, 1962, Brian discovered his passion for mechanics early, tinkering with toys and later helping his father work on family cars and engines. After graduating from Northland High School, he continued honing his abilities by attending Columbus State and earning an Associates degree in Automotive Technology. He later achieved a Master Mechanic certification and maintained that through continuing certification tests over the years.
Brian started his 30+ year career working at Bob Keim Ford in Worthington and continued his loyalty to that same company through 4 different changes of ownership. During his career, he mentored numerous young people from the Columbus State automotive program. His patience and knowledge of cars made him a wonderful teacher.
His passion for vintage muscle cars, specifically from 1969, led him to many online friendships across the country and long conversations in junk yards! He was always researching and looking for original parts for his favorite cars, 1969 Mustangs and Torinos.
While he didn't grow up with pets, he fell in love with Bonnie's little grey kitten named Grayce, and the rest, as they say, is history… He loved 9 additional dogs and cats over the years with Bonnie, and he always said he had no idea what he had been missing. And anyone who knows him also knows his obsession with Coke, pizza, and Ohio State Buckeyes.
Brian is survived by his wife of 36 years, Bonnie Bennett Nicklaus; his brother Bruce (Celeste) Nicklaus; nephews Ben and Dustin Nicklaus and great niece Katelyn Nicklaus. Extended family of Betty Massey, Jim (Melanie) Bennett, Brian Bennett, Beth Vosler, and Bonnie's aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents Howard and Maryjane Nicklaus, and his best friends Greg Bauer and Clark Becker.
A celebration of life will take place in early Spring.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Gender Rd Christian Church meditation garden, which is where Brian's ashes will be scattered, or to Columbus State automotive program.
