Eleanor Saad Obituary

Eleanor Mary Saad July 13, 1926 - October 1, 2009 Eleanor Mary Saad left us for her new journey on October 1, 2009. Eleanor was born July 13, 1926 in Lincoln, Nebraska, the daughter of Alexander and Anice Zakem. She was the second youngest of nine siblings; Adeline, James, Lillian, Martha, Alice, Bette, Mary and Leona. Eleanor graduated from Blessed Sacrament Catholic School in Detroit, Michigan in 1944. Perhaps one of her biggest joys was cooking near coma inducing feasts for her family, friends and anybody that she knew would truly appreciate it. She lived her life with purpose, providing for her sons, daughter and grandchildren while ensuring everybody's happiness and well being. She is survived by her beloved husband of 59 years, Joseph; her daughter, Kathleen; sons, James and twins, Peter and Paul; 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. Eleanor was a member of St. Sharbel Maronite Catholic Church in Warren, MI for over 20 years. She was proud of her Lebanese American heritage, which was reflected, throughout her lifetime. Her unwavering focus on family and friends is something that will be carried on by her loved ones and she wouldn't have it any other way. May the rich memories and abundant stories of Eleanor provide comfort to those who knew her, keep her close by and eternally "in the loop".

Sito,
From the moment I met you, I knew we had a special bond. From our Sunday afternoon chats, to cooking with you . . . I have priceless memories that I will carry with me forever. In the short three years that I got to spend with you, I you have taught me a lot! You taught me the importance of family bonds, the proper way to make cranberry sauce (I promise not to blend the mix too fine), the importance of knowing what is going on, the fact that I better know how to play the card game before I start to play it (I promise I wasn't cheating-I was just asking questions to learn the game) and you have given me the drive to be a better mom, wife and woman. I will miss our Sunday afternoon chats, your hugs, your questions and your advice! Even though I am not true Saad (rather sworn in-I passed your test, right?) into the family, I will always love you grandma! I love you!

Growing up I had the privilege of spending most of my day's with my amazing grandmother. My fondest childhood memories were mostly spent with her in the kitchen and as her sidekick to many social affairs. I have done my best to continue her legacy of cooking and will be lost without the guidance of her phone calls. The pressure was always on even thousands of miles apart. I will mostly miss her guidance, the excitement in her voice when I called, and her I loves you's as if it were her last. But mostly I want to thank her for showing me that true happiness in life can only be found in love and family, honesty and compassion, and loyalty and faith. Her memory lives on with me everyday as I continue to hear her voice and feel her presence. Grandma I love you, I miss you, watch over us, continue to listen, and I can't wait till we meet again.

A beautiful tribute to a beautiful person. Although I have not seen Aunt Eleanor for several years, the wonderful memories of her and Uncle Joe playing cards with my parents will remain with me for the rest of my life...as will the taste of her famous biscuits. May she rest in peace.

Our mother was a true example of love, commitment and purpose to life. She understood the need to keep family at the forefront of our lifes journey and never loose sight of our purpose to fulfill on earth. Compassion, forgiveness, and empathy were values she exemplified. And an unwavering passion to do our best. I will miss her conversations, her guideance and her food for our souls.

I've known Eleanor for 12 years as a wonderful and vivacious person. She was a joy to talk with and she shared her interests with enthusiasm (esp. Bowling!). We'll miss her very much in our community. Britt Smith, Grand Junction, CO.

I never had the opportunity to meet you Eleanor, but I can see that you and your beloved husband have left a legacy of love, loyalty and faith to your precious family. We are blessed beyond measure to have a small piece of you through your granddaughter Erica. May your legacy continue!

It was a beautiful obituary and described her and her life to a "T". She was not only my Aunt but my friend too. I called her so many times for "how to make this or how to make that." As long as I have my many fond memories of time spent with her, she will live on in my heart forever. I miss her but am happy knowing that she is with God looking down at all of us. We now have another angel to pray to.

What a beautiful tribute it was to have everybody together in Grand Junction to celebrate Grandma's life-I know that she was right there with us listening to simultaneous conversations..........The older I get and the more time that I spend with my mother, siblings, uncles and cousins-the more evident it is to me that we all have just the right amount of Eleanor in us!! You will be missed forever Gram, but remain alive our hearts-we love you!

Mom,
I miss you so much more than I could ever imagine. In looking at all of the old pictures we saved, I remember how energetic and ambitious you truly were. At the end, you taught me how fragile and unexpecting life can be.
I will cherish these memories forever.
