Helen Brew Obituary

Helen M. Brew June 27, 1927 - February 11, 2012 Helen M. Brew, age 84, died peacefully at home, surrounded by her loving family, after a valiant fight with cancer. Helen was born in Austin, Colorado, to Ernest and Cora Duncan. She attended the old Fairview School and graduated from Delta High School, where she was active in the band and orchestra, a baton twirler and a beauty queen in several pageants. She obtained her teaching Certificate from Western State College and taught school at Columbine on Ash Mesa and at Lincoln Elementary in Delta. On December 23, 1949, she married Kenneth Brew and helped him by keeping books for their farming business near Pea Green, where they resided the entire 62 years of their married lives. Having raised three boys, she enjoyed time with her family and friends, along with playing the organ, solving word puzzles, traveling, camping, dinner club and organizing reunions for the Fairview School. She is survived by her husband, Kenneth; three sons, Dennis (June) of Cedaredge CO; Ronald (Karen) of Parker, CO; and Randy (Crystal) of Grand Junction, CO. She is also survived by 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren and one brother, Stanley Duncan of Palisade, CO. Viewing will be Thursday, February 16 at 10:00 a.m., and the funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., all at the Delta Assembly of God Church, 762 Dodge Street, Delta. Graveside services will take place at the Delta City Cemetery. Taylor Funeral Service is in charge of the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Helen's honor to Hospice and Palliative Care of Western Colorado, P. O. Box 24, Delta CO 81416.
