Steven "Steve" J. Gomez
April 21, 1950 - February 16, 2021
Steven Joseph Gomez, 70, went back home to be with our Lord. He died at St. Mary's Hospital, while surrounded by family. Sadly, he lost a short battle to COVID-19 on February 16, 2021.
Steve was born Steven Joseph Gomez on April 21, 1950, in Grand Junction, Colorado, to Manuel Simon Gomez and Helen Quintana. He grew up in the Riverside Community and attended schools in Grand Junction, CO.
Steve met the love of his life, Juanita "Mickey" Gonzales, in the summer of 1969, in Grand Junction, CO. They were married on March 15, 1971, in Moab, Utah, and through their union, they had four children, Lizzy, Stevie, Andrew and Sonya.
Steve was employed as a custodian for most of his life. He worked for St. Mary's Hospital and retired from the City of Grand Junction in 2015.
Steve always looked forward to the hunting season for many reasons; just being outdoors in the wilderness and admiring the beautiful scenery and calmness. Steve's hobbies included hunting, fishing, camping, cooking, listening to his oldies and Spanish music, watching westerns on TV, and tinkering in his work shed.
He was a spiritual person, kind, generous, always had a smile on his face and a great sense of humor. He had a charismatic personality and people could easily be drawn to him. He was an amazing story-teller. He believed that "one of the main things in life is to help each other."
He was a dedicated, loving, caring husband who loved his wife with all his heart. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who loved spending quality time with his family.
Steve will be greatly missed by his wife, family, friends, and all those who were lucky to have known him. His amazing stories will be remembered forever.
He is survived by his wife, Juanita "Mickey" Gomez; daughter, Elizabeth "Lizzy" Martinez; son, Steve A. Gomez (Amanda), and daughter, Sonya Gomez, all of Grand Junction; sister, Antonia Gomez-Sandoval (Nick) of Westminster, CO; brother, Richard (Gail) Gomez of Aurora, CO; grandchildren, Drew (Bella) Gomez, Gabriel Martinez, Brooklyn Gomez, Rio Gomez, Isa Gomez, and Mercedez Gomez; great-granddaughter, Mila Gomez; several step-grandchildren; three godchildren, and several special nieces and nephews who loved him very much.
