Terence Tobin Obituary

Terence "Terry" Tobin

May 19, 1945 - April 15, 2022

I have decided to write my own obituary, goodbye to my family, friends, classmates, acquaintances and all the people of Dove Creek - Goodbye and I love you.

I was born in Santa Rosa, CA, to Marie (Baird) Tobin and Tobias Tobin. After six months we moved to Dove Creek where Tobias worked for Ed Baird Sr. at the Baird Sawmill. Two years later Tobias left us, and I was raised by a single mother and a wonderful extended family of Baird's, Cowling's, Wilson's and the entire bunch of old timers in Dove Creek. No real chance of getting in serious trouble with that many eyes on you.

I married a local girl, Parnell Odeabough, and we left Dove Creek to get our degrees. We later divorced and I found the love of my life, Sandra Jean Huddleston (married almost 50 years). We had two children, Britt (Mikki) of Los Lunas, NM, and Paula who is buried at the Dove Creek cemetery.

I spent my career teaching in District 51, retiring from Fruita Middle School.

Sandy and I traveled the world, we did most everything people could do from scuba diving, bungee jumping, hang gliders and even Sandy jumping out of perfectly good airplanes.

In 2015 I was diagnosed with cancer and after a seven year battle the cancer spread and I ran out of options. I am at peace with the lord and ready for the next leg of my adventure.

I have requested no services and my family is honoring that decision. Burial will be in Dove Creek, the place I always considered my home, where I will once again be with our daughter, Paula.

If you live in Dove Creek, you are blessed - there is no comparison. To the young people of Dove Creek enjoy the fact people care about you and are looking out for you.

Find peace in knowing I am no longer in pain and if you have time throw a thought (good or bad) my way. Goodbye and I love you.

Terry Tobin

Mr. Tobin taught my husband and me American History 1969-1970 in Glenwood Springs. He really sparked our interest in the subject and made history fun and ALWAYS had such a positive attitude. He was a gem... may he Rest In Peace.

I had the honor of knowing Mr.Tobin as a student and a parent of a student. He was a great teacher and person who I know will be greatly missed by all.

Mr. Tobin will be well remembered. I will never forget the Alistair Cook films we endured. The fluorescent orange full size toilet seat as a bathroom hall pass cured most of us from needing to use the restroom. I will never forget some if the shenanigans between teachers/students etc. Mr. Tobin taught me to enjoy learning and to have fun. Our class trip to Mesa Verde was one of my favorite memories. Mr. Tobin made a difference in my life and many others. My heartfelt condolences to his friends and family. He was a great teacher!

I was so sorry to hear of Mr. Tobin's passing. Mr. Tobin was a fantastic teacher. I learned a great deal in his history class. Although it has been 30-ish years since I sat in his classroom, I will never forget his "What you see is what you get" quizzes after a particularly boring educational film. I am forever checking the time on the clock or how many buttons someone has on their jacket, just in case there is a pop quiz. My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Rest in peace Mr. Tobin.

Mr. Terry Tobin will always be a favorite teacher. The shenanigans he roped me into fueled my love for learning, teaching and sharing. Nothing will come close to the Alistair Cook films he tortured us with almost daily! Somehow he knew we would retain the information. The famous hunter orange toilet seat as a hall pass will also be a fond memory. One of my very favorite adventures was the school trip we took down to Mesa Verde. My love for that part of Colorado and for the people who have lived there was fueled by that trip. Thank you Mr. Tobin for making Middle school fun and a great learning environment.
May all of you feel the peace of the Lord during this time. He will always be remembered! May he Rest In Peace and know he is loved by many.

Sandy,
So sorry to read about Terry's passing. I guess one could best sum him up as a "character." always enjoyed visits with him. He inevitably had an interesting anecdote if not commentary on a variety of topics or experiences. His wry wit, poignant observations, and generosity will be missed.

I absolutely loved Mr. Tobin. He fed my love for history and challenged my mind every day. He had a way of making you feel important at a time when the world makes kids feel like they don't matter. I was so happy as an adult each time I ran into him in a store and got to share him with my own children. Thank you to his family for sharing him with us. He made a difference, and he will be missed. I am so very sorry for your loss.
