Virgil VanDyke Obituary

Virgil Zellers Van Dyke June 27, 1929 – October 8, 2011 Virgil Zellers Van Dyke passed away on October 8, 2011. He was born June 27, 1929, in Pueblo, Colorado to Virgil Albert and Lillian Gertrude (Zellers) Van Dyke. On September 16, 1951, Virgil married Alice Lorraine Ball. They were married for 51 years, of which 50 were in Grand Junction. Van Dyke served in the U.S. Air Force from 1948 to 1952, including an 18-month tour overseas during the Korean War followed by an assignment in Rapid City, SD, where he met his wife. He obtained the rank of staff sergeant when he was honorably discharged from service. Van Dyke was self employed at the North Avenue Washateria and Van's EZ Wash until retirement. He was an active member of both the Masonic and the Elks Lodges in Grand Junction. He was one of the founders of Monument Little League and an avid sports fan, supporting and watching both his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed watching other professional and local sports teams and organizations. Virgil was preceded in death by his wife and both of his parents. His survivors include daughter, Doreen (Norman) Lincoln of Grand Junction; sons, Richard (Angie) Van Dyke of Eagle, CO; Steven (Debbie) Van Dyke of Chandler, AZ, and David (Lorrie) Van Dyke of Grand Junction; grandchildren, Kelly Frontczak, Kristy Spaedt, Megan Van Dyke, Erik Lincoln, Andrew Dickenson, Ben Van Dyke, Brian Lincoln, Mikeila Hansen, James Van Dyke, and great-grandchildren, Landon Spaedt, Lauren Spaedt, and Addyson Frontczak. A memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 15, 2011, in the Callahan-Edfast Mortuary Chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of Western Colorado, 3090B North 12th Street, Grand Junction, CO 81506. Arrangements are under the direction of Callahan-Edfast Mortuary.
