Warren Bystedt Obituary
March 25, 1930 - January 25, 2021
Warren Bystedt, age 90, of Grand Junction, Colorado, passed away peacefully at home on January 25, 2021.
Warren was born in Minneapolis, the fourth son of George Knute and Hedvig Cecilia Lundburg Bystedt. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Henry, Elsen and Harry, and granddaughter, Kaia Juki.
He leaves behind his dearly beloved wife, Marjorie Rose Bytsedt, to whom he was married to for 59 years; sons, Paul of Corpus Christi, TX; Joseph (Gina) of Lakeville, MN; Peter (Margo) of Grand Junction; Michael (Maki) of Lomita, CA, and John of Grand Junction, CO; grandchildren, Steven, Mathew (Monica), Samantha, Victoria (Mitch), Joseph, and Sebastiano, great-grandson, Jacob.
Warren served in the US Army from April 1, 1951 through April 10, 1953. He was stationed at Fort Hood, Texas, in the 1st Armored Division, serving as a tank gunner during the Korean War . He was assigned to the 45th Infantry Division.
Upon returning from Korea he worked as a carpenter then worked for the telephone company. At that time he also took up boxing and was a golden glove boxer. He attended the University of Minnesota, graduating with a degree in elementary education in 1962. While teaching in the St. Paul and Minneapolis schools he continued his education receiving his Master degree as a reading specialist. Continuing his education he ended up with a PHD equivalency in reading. He served as the reading consultant for the Minneapolis schools, the state of Minnesota and the Moline, Illinois schools. He was also a school principal and special education teacher.
He moved with his family to Davenport, Iowa in 1975. Warren retired from the Moline Public schools in 1990, then moved to Grand Junction with his wife and handicapped son, John.
He enjoyed being an active runner and was a member of the Monument Striders.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on February 10, at 10: 30 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church. Burial will follow at the church columbarium.
Donations may be made in Warren's name to the Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church or Catholic Outreach.
