Karl Lundquist

Karl Dewey (Duke) Lundquist went home to be with his Lord and Savior, he was 85. Karl was born to August and Letha (Smith) Lundquist in Detroit. Following high school, Karl joined the United States Coast Guard where he served aboard the Coast Guard Cutter Sundew and was later stationed at the USCG Air Station in Traverse City. He was united in marriage to Patricia (Grandstaff) Lundquist, July 6, 1958 in Benzonia and after honeymooned in Port Sanilac. They celebrated 65 years of marriage together. During this time, they lived in Grosse Ile for many years and later moved up north to Gladwin. Karl was an accomplished carpenter with a passion for teaching the trade to his sons, family, and many other young men who are still in the industry today. He was a skilled craftsman in every sense, from small woodworking household items and furniture, to large houses and apartment complexes through the years. Even after retirement, he prided himself on always staying busy and working in his shop, drawing sketches of projects, and building various items for family and friends that will be cherished. He also had a passion for horses and the cowboy way of life, where he spent many years riding, training, and going to horse camp at Elk Hills, as well as horse camp/hunting trips to Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. He enjoyed horses, hunting, and country music with his sons and closest friends, John Hutchison, Evan Davis, Dan Rowley, Darrell Schlese, and Basil Vaden. Karl was a very active and hands-on father who taught the importance of hard work, strength, and responsibility well. He was a loving grandfather who was always willing to spend time and have fun with his grandchildren and teach them many things about life. He was a great listener and even better story teller. Last but not least, he was a devout Christian who loved to study the Bible and share the gospel with others.

Karl was preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Don and Bruce Lundquist. He is survived by his wife Patricia, children Karl (Diane) Lundquist of Colorado, Dana Lundquist of Gladwin, Ericka Lundquist of Clare, Ben (Sara) Lundquist of Cadillac, and former daughter-in-law Tina Lundquist of Beaverton, thirteen grandchildren Heather, Lyndsay, Lisa, Lexie, Kelley, Danielle, Ethan, Billy, Brian, Brent, Braedan, Ashlyn, and Madisyn, as well as nineteen great-grandchildren, his sister Judy Willis, and several nephews and nieces.

A celebration of life graveside memorial service will take place next summer in Port Sanilac with a luncheon to follow. The service will be officiated by Karl's dear nephew Pastor Andrew Willis. A special thank you to Horizon Senior Living of Clare, My Michigan Health Hospice/Home Care, and Stepenson-Wyman Funeral Home.
