Peter McNamara Obituary

Peter Harold McNamara, age 54, passed away peacefully at his home in West Branch, MI on Wednesday, Oct. 10. He had lived in West Branch since 1999, formerly of Sunfield, MI. Pete was born on Dec. 16, 1963 in Livonia, MI to Harold and Janice (Ruh) McNamara. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1982 and attended Ferris College where he received a degree in HVAC.
Pete enlisted in the Michigan State Police in August of 1988 and graduated from the Michigan State Police 104th Recruit School. His first post assignment was in Reed City and later transferred to the West Branch Post. Pete has served 19 years at the West Branch Post as a Trooper, Detective Sgt., from 2012-2015, and Desk Sgt.
He met Andria Sather and they married in West Branch on April 4, 2001. Pete attended Ogemaw Hills Methodist Church and was a member of the Optimist Club in West Branch where he served as president, the Cardinal Club in Prescott, Sons of the American Legion, Moose Lodge, and West Branch Chamber. He was vice president of the Surline PTO and was a yearly organizer of the Surline Color Run. He also was involved with the Northeast Community Foundation, Toys for Tots, and Shop with a Cop.
Pete worked part time at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home as an assistant from 2007-2018. He was always staying active in the community and helping others. Pete enjoyed hunting and going to hunting camp, football, any type of pie, and most importantly spending time with his grandchildren and family.
Pete is survived by his wife, Andria McNamara of West Branch; daughters, Stephanie (Allan) Miller of West Branch and Jennifer (Jason) Pittenger of Clio; grandchildren, Juliana, Tanner, Ryan, Emma, and Autumn-Lea; mother, Janice McNamara of St. Joseph; sisters, Maggie (Joe) Dolezal of Dundee and Jean (Jim) Carow of St. Joseph; brother, Michael (Gordon) Higgins of Jackson, FL; and several nieces, nephews, in-laws, friends and co-workers. He is preceded in death by his father.
Visitation was held at Steuernol & McLaren Funeral Home in West Branch on Friday, Oct. 12, from 1-8 p.m. The funeral service was held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at Ogemaw Hills Free Methodist Church, 3480 W. M-76, West Branch at noon, with doors opened for visitation at 11 a.m. Pastor David Kurtz officiated.
