Peter Liapes Obituary
Peter was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, where he served with the Seabees during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service continued into his civilian life, where he was a member of the U.S. Forest Service's elite Hot Shots firefighting team. Peter was also a graduate of Queensbury High School and furthered his education at SUNY Cobleskill.
Known for his exceptional storytelling, Peter had a profound love for the San Bernardino Mountains and the Big Bear Valley, a region that inspired him throughout his life. He was an avid collector of arrowheads and amassed a significant collection of artifacts, reflecting his deep appreciation for history and nature.
Peter is survived by his children, Jill Liapes Darwish of Twin Peaks, California, and Jeffrey Peter Liapes of Bend, Oregon; grandchildren Alissa Darwish, Samuel Darwish, Hayden Liapes, and Daniel Condie; great-grandson Silas Condie; sister Katherine Peaslee; nieces Christine Peaslee, Sharon Amash, and Melissa Peaslee; and several cousins.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Friends of Big Bear Valley.

Peter was great friend. When I lived in California from 1963 to 1980 in Manhattan Beach, I would visit him in Running Springs for a few days. It was pleasant time. He´d show around the area where he went exploring and all his collections. We would visit the local places for breakfast, dinner, bars (until he quit drinking, I think). I remember when he hurt his knee (his hip?) fire fighting and they would let him do it any more. That hurt. I am sorry he´s gone.

My condolences to the family. Pete and I had so many good times together in Queensbury and at college. He was a truly good friend. The Accardi's were also his good friends. I cherish the memories.............Harry
