Steve Hammond Obituary
It is with profound sadness and heavy hearts that the family of Steve Hammond announces his unexpected passing on December 20, 2024. Born on February 25, 1962, in Glens Falls, Steve was the beloved son of the late Arthur "Sonny" Hammond and June Vilander Hammond.
From an early age, Steve exhibited a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the beauty of nature. He attended school in Queensbury and spent his teenage years working alongside his father at Meads Nursery. His passion for landscaping blossomed into a career as a talented foreman, where he took pride in creating stunning rock walls with materials he discovered in the woods. In 2007, Steve transitioned to work as a Teamster, driving concrete mixers for Jointa Galusha and later Cranesville Block Co. His dedication to his craft and team was unparalleled, earning him respect and admiration from those he worked with.
Steve was also a phenomenal musician, a gift he cherished and shared with others. Music was a deep part of his soul, and he had the privilege of performing alongside his father, Sonny, and his brother Art creating memories they all treasured. Steve's talent truly shined alongside his brother during his time with the band, Out of Reach, where his charisma and skill captivated audiences. It was during one of these performances that fate brought Nicki into his life. As he played on stage, their connection sparked, marking the beginning of their extraordinary love story.
Steve married Nicki, the love of his life, and together they spent 33 incredible years building a life filled with adventure, loud love, and cherished memories. From their time in Argyle to adventuring to Las Vegas, to settling in Hartford, they embraced life's joys and challenges together. Their home became a sanctuary, a place Steve called his "happy place," where they worked tirelessly in their yard and spent summer days by the pool.
Among Steve's greatest joys was his daughter, Stephanie, who held a special place in his heart. He celebrated her accomplishments with pride and unwavering love. Steve also adored his grandsons, Jack & Levi, whose presence brought light to his life. Stephanie and her family will forever cherish the bond they shared with him.
Steve's warm spirit was truly one of a kind. He had the rare ability to light up any room he entered with his infectious smile and unmistakable loud voice. Whether it was his coworkers, contractors, neighbors, friends, and family, Steve made everyone feel seen and valued. His boundless kindness, infectious humor, and heartfelt commitment to bringing joy to others defined who he was.
Steve leaves behind a family who loved him deeply: his devoted wife, Nicki, beloved daughter, Stephanie (TJ) Fiorillo, grandsons, Jack & Levi, Sister, Chrissy (Len) Borden, Brother, Art (Hope) Hammond, Sister Mona (Larry) Chase, Stepdaughters, Elizabeth (Bruce) Woliver and Lauren (Sahil) Tefft, Aunt Pat, Nieces, Nephews, and numerous Cousins and fur babies, Lyza, Emmy, Ruby, and Brody.
At Steve's request, there will be no services and burial will be at the convenience of the family.
A celebration of his life will be held on April 19th, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. at Schuylerville Legion Hall. 6 Clancy Street, Schuylerville, NY 12871.
