Clara Millard Obituary

NORTHWOOD - Clara Elizabeth Millard, 71, of rural Northwood, died Monday (July 11, 2005) at the Muse-Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit in Mason City, surrounded by her loving husband and family.

A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. today at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 412 N. Broadway in Manly, with Monsignor Joseph J. Slepicka officiating and Deacon Robert Mega assisting. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122 West, Mason City.

Visitation will be from 9 until 10 a.m. today at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S. in Northwood.

Clara Elizabeth Millard was born on Sept. 12, 1933, in Mason City, the daughter of Clarence and Kathryn Gertrude (Creekmur) Wagner. She graduated from Ottumwa Heights Academy, after completing years of school at St. Joseph Catholic School in Mason City.

Clara went to work at Eddie Jones Insurance Co., then Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Mason City.

She was united in marriage to Chester Millard on Feb. 21, 1953, in Sanford Fla., at All Souls Catholic Church. They moved to Mason City, then to Northwood to farm. Clara also worked at the Kline Drug Store in Northwood.

She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manly.

Clara was a very loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

Clara enjoyed gardening, handwork, sewing, music, playing the piano for several years, antiques, crossword puzzles, her flower garden and reading.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband, Chester Millard Jr. of rural Northwood; her children, Mark Millard and his wife, Carolyn, of Ames, Pamela Best and her husband, Kirk, of Webster City, Timothy Millard (deceased), Debra Sampson of Ankeny, Jeffrey Millard and his wife, Kathy, of Garner, Daniel Millard and his wife, Dawn, of Fertile, and Thomas Millard of El Dorado Hills, Calif; 23 grandchildren, Aaron and Jessie Millard, Jason and Chad Best, Nigel, Douglas, Trent and Trisha Millard, Jonathan Geerlings, Kari, Kristen, Jamie, Joelle, Stacy and Jessie Sampson, Kelsey, Lisa, Joey and Mikah Millard, Tara Birri, Ivy, Jacob and Lauren Millard; three great-grandchildren, Jared and Brianna Best, Robay Birri; as well as other relatives and many friends.

Her parents and a son, Timothy Millard, preceded Clara in death.
