Elva Olsen Obituary

MASON CITY - Elva V. Olsen, 83, of 847 Sixth St. S.E., died Wednesday (April 8, 2009) at home.

Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at Major Erickson Funeral Home, 111 N. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Mark Lavrenz, Bethlehem Lutheran Church, officiating. Inurnment will take place in the Alden Cemetery.

The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to the Elva Olsen Memorial Fund.

Elva was born July 9, 1925, in Alden, the daughter of Raymond E. and Anna E. (Graff) Olsen. She graduated from Alden High School then Hamilton Business College in Mason City.

After graduating from Hamilton's, Elva moved to Washington, D.C., where she worked for the FBI. She returned to Mason City in 1945 and went to work for the North Iowa Abstract Co. She retired in 1987.

Elva was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. She also enjoyed golfing and bowling.

Elva is survived by her sister, Ardelle Packard, of Santa Fe, N.M.; a brother, Glen W. Olsen and wife, Mary Lou, of Ballwin, Mo.; sister-in-law, Rosemary Olsen, of Alden; and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Elva is preceded in death by her parents, brother, Marlyn K. Olsen; brother-in-law, Joseph Packard; niece, Ann Thomas.

Elva was our neighbor for our years on 6th ST and what a fun and GOOD neighbor. We will all miss her.
