MASON CITY | Gale Mae Harrington, 80, of Mason City, died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at the Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit.
Memorial services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, at Wesley United Methodist Church, 1405 S. Pennsylvania Ave., with the Rev. Steve Hansen officiating. Per family request, Gale's body will be cremated and interment will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Mason City at a later date. The family will greet friends one hour before services Saturday at the church. Memorials may be directed to Hospice of North Iowa. Gale was born July 10, 1936 in Mason City the daughter of Glenn and Amerette (Winey) Schmitz. She graduated from Mason City High School. Gale married Larry P. Harrington July 15, 1956, in Mason City. Last July, Gale and Larry celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, along with both of their 80th birthdays!
Gale worked in banking in Mason City for some 20 years. She retired from the Bank of America. Following retirement, Gale and Larry enjoyed wintering in Casa Grande, Arizona for 22 years. Gale was a life-long member of Wesley United Methodist Church where, in past years, she was involved in church circle and the choir. Some of her interests included reading, playing cards, playing games on the computer, watching TV and golfing.
Gale is survived by her husband, Larry P. Harrington of Mason City, 3 sons, Steve (Lynette) Harrington of Mason City, Mark (Sandy) Harrington of Plymouth and Troy Harrington of St. Charles, Illinois; 6 grandchildren, Ashley and April of Mason City, Kyle of Mason City, Kayla of New Port Richey, Florida, Weston (Katlin) Harrington of St. Charles, Illinois and Vaughn Harrington of St. Charles, Illinois; 1 great-grandson, Fox; 5 sisters, Doris Johnson of Anaheim, California, Jean Stone of Mason City, Patty (Dean) Osgood of Otranto, Joyce Evans of Mason City and Coralee (Jim) Johnson of Mason City; 2 brothers, Kenneth Schmitz of Murray and Forrest (Norma) Schmitz of Mason City; several nieces and nephews.
Gale was preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother, Daryl Schmitz; 3 sisters, Dorothy Buffington, Phyllis Beaver and Glennys Croxton.
