Gene C. "Ted" Weitzel was born on May 6, 1956, in the military hospital in Orleans, France, the son of Gene and Verna (Kalvig) Weitzel. Most of his pre-high school years were in various military post schools. He graduated with the class of 1974 from Northwood-Kensett High School.

After graduation, Gene joined the Army. When he had his first leave he married his high school sweetheart, Laura Sistek. Their marriage was dissolved by mutual agreement in 1980. In 1983, while serving at Fort Knox, KY with the Armored Tank Division, he met and was united in marriage to Janet Curry. Their marriage was blessed with a daughter Jill. Gene retired from the Army after 20 years of service. For the past 15 years he has worked at Carroll George Inc., which is now Tru Style.

Gene was a talented artist and looked forward to pursuing this in the future.

He loved fast cars and stick shift, especially sporty Mustangs and big Jeeps, and he loved to go to the Sunday night races. A favorite pastime was fishing in his boat with Paul. He especially liked early quiet mornings on the lake.

Gene was a caring, loving son and brother. He cared for people and has been the "ROCK" for the family since the passing of his father. He not only cared for his family, he cared for his community and his country. Even after his passing, his legacy of caring continues as a donor.

In his later life, Gene rediscovered a closeness with his Lord. He enjoyed his church family at Peace Lutheran Church in Northwood and taking his mother to the services.

Gene was a life member of Peace Lutheran Church in Northwood, and a life member of Our Buddies VFW Memorial Post 6779 of Northwood.

Gene is survived by his daughter, Jill Myers (Shane), and two grandchildren, Emilee and Dylan; his brother, Paul Weitzel who has shared a home for the past 15 years. Gene is also survived by his mother, Verna Weitzel; sisters, Christine Dorenkamp (Arnold), Susan Lau (Luane); brothers, Frank Weitzel (Donna), and John Weitzel (Stacy). Gene is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, who all loved him dearly; as well as many other extended family members and friends.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Conrad (Tony) Weitzel; maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Vern Kalvig; his father, Gene C. Weitzel, and beloved grandson, Courtland.
