Gregory M. Neilsen

October 28, 1946 - February 18, 2018

MASON CITY – Gregory M. Neilsen, 72, of Mason City, passed away Sunday, February 18, 2018, in Mason City.

A private service will be held on Thursday, March 1, 2018 at Elmwood - St. Joseph Cemetery, with the Reverend Dan Gerrietts officiating.

Family suggests memorial contributions to be directed to LoveUp Foundation, 4340 E. Indian School Rd. Suite 21-524, Phoenix, AZ., which will be used to help foster children achieve their dreams.

Greg was born October 28, 1946 to B.E. Neilsen and Evelyn (Hossman) in Mason City, Iowa. He graduated Iowa Falls High School, class of 1965. After high school, Greg went to Ellsworth Community College and graduated with an Associates of Arts Degree. To further his education, he went to the University of Iowa and received a B.A. in Science, June of 1969. Greg joined the US Army in 1970, served during the Vietnam War, until his honorable discharge in 1975. Upon returning home from the war, he attended Illinois College of Optometry and graduated with a Doctorate Degree in 1976.

He was a member of Phi Theta Upsilon, since 1974.

Greg is survived by his four children, Erica Neilsen, Kenny Neilsen, Melony Neilsen and Andy Neilsen; sister, Deb Adams, and close friend, Monica Haynes (Neilsen).

He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Carol Charley.
