Janine Mae Carlson

October 18, 1939 - May 16, 2024

ST. ANSGAR - Janine Mae Carlson, 84, of rural St. Ansgar, Iowa, passed away on May 16, 2024 at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, IA while recovering from multiple broken hips. She is finally at peace. Born on October 18, 1939 to John Cothern and Isabel Miller Cothern in Mitchell, South Dakota, she spent many years teaching special education in the Mason City Public Schools.

Janine is survived by her longtime partner, Larry Brown of St. Ansgar, Iowa, two brothers John (Irene) Cothern of Huntington Beach, California, Joe (Jan) Cothern of N. Hudson, Wisconsin, and one sister Juanita (Ron) Rothfield of London, England. She is also survived by two sons Jim (Doreen) Carter of Woodbury, Minnesota and Joe (Janelle) Carter of Marshalltown, Iowa; her grandchildren, Mike (Leah) Carter of North Yarmouth, Maine, Hanna (Chris) Clough of Portland, Oregon, Sam (Keri) Carter of Chicago, Illinois and Caroline Carter of Woodbury, Minnesota; and one great grandchild Muriel Carter of North Yarmouth, Maine.

A private service will be held at a later date.
