Karl Loeffler Obituary

Karl Loeffler, 87, passed away on April 2, 2009, at his home in Ocala, Fla. with family and Hospice loving care.
He was born on Feb. 15, 1922, the son of Fred Loeffler and Margaret Groh Loeffler, on a farm near Kanawha. He attended school there and also went to Lane Tech in Chicago, Ill., where his parents moved after the Depression.
The family moved back to a farm near Renwick, Iowa, and later near Belmond. He helped his father in farming, and, during the winters, he worked at other jobs. He worked at Douglas Aircraft in Chicago during some of the winters.
On Dec. 23, 1944, Karl married Phyllis Swanson, of Klemme, at the Methodist Parsonage in Klemme. On March 1, 1945, they moved to a farm by Belmond and farmed on their own. They farmed at Goodell, Floyd, and Nora Springs for 19 years. Karl enjoyed farming and was a good farmer.
In 1965, Karl went to work for Trojan Seed Corn Company and relocated to Lisbon, Iowa. After four years, he was promoted to Regional Manager and moved to Illinois where he introduced sunflowers and Trojan Seed Corn to the farmers. In 1970, Trojan Seed Corn's company was sold and the Loeffler family moved to St. Pete, Fla.
Karl got into remodeling houses and rental properties. Phyllis helped him and worked along with him. In 1985, Karl and Phyllis retired and moved to a place located on a canal in Inverness, Fla.
Karl enjoyed a good life and had two trips to Hawaii with the company.
Karl's health began to fail and he experienced many health problems. In 2003, they moved to Ocala, Fla., to a mobile home park where he lived until his death. He enjoyed his farm years and also his sales in seed corn. He was a good salesman and would have made a good orator. He enjoyed visiting with people.
Karl is survived by his wife of 64 years, Phyllis; two sons, Craig and Vance Loeffler, of Hernando, Fla.; his daughter, Renette Hess and husband James, of Manchester, Tenn.; grandson, Charles D. Loeffler of Hernando, Fla. a granddaughter, Karlie Watson, of Ocala, Fla.; sister, Eleanor Zeiger of Mason City; brother-in-law, Don Thompson, of Belmond; and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother Fred Jr. who died at 38; sisters, Helen Thompson, Olga Rogella, and Mary Schnack, all of Belmond; nephews, Doug Thompson and Chuck Rogalla, of Belmond.
