Margaret Arndt Obituary

NORA SPRINGS - Margaret Alice (Nelsen) Arndt, 93, of Nora Springs, died Friday (July 13, 2007) at the Nora Springs Care Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, July 16, at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 101 N. Hawkeye, Nora Springs, with Dr. Reverend Jennifer E. Edinger officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Nora Springs.

Visitation will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. today at Sheckler Colonial Chapel, 114 N. Hawkeye in Nora Springs. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Monday at the church.

The family of Margaret Alice (Nelsen) Arndt has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church in her memory.

Margaret Alice (Nelsen) Arndt was born on Feb. 7, 1914, to Andrew and Louella (Armstrong) Nelsen in Franklin County near Coulter. She received her education in the Franklin County schools and graduated from Sheffield High School in 1932.

Margaret was united in marriage to Ted Arndt on Jan. 19, 1934, in Mason City where they lived until 1947. In 1972, they moved to Portland and lived there until they moved to Nora Springs where Margaret resided until her death.

Margaret was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother, and was interested in sewing, crafts, and gardening and above all especially loved taking care of her family, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. She also enjoyed visiting with her many friends and neighbors.

She was a member of St. Luke Lutheran Church, Friendly Circle Bible study group and Do Day quilting group. The church and her church community was especially important to Margaret and she loved being active in her church.

Left to cherish her memory are her three daughters, Phyllis (Tom) Kelley and Marlys Kramm of Nora Springs, Peggy (Jerry) Majewski of Evansdale, Iowa; two sons, Ted Jr (Beverly) Arndt and Bruce Arndt and his special friend, Colette, of Nora Springs; 18 grandchildren and spouses; 34 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great grandchildren; a brother-in-law, Vern Bushbaum of Dumont; three sisters-in-law, Pearl Nelsen of Filer, Idaho, Wyona Nelsen of El Dorado Springs, Mo., and Marjorie Durant of Dumont; many nieces and nephews, and many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ted Arndt, who died in March 1991; daughter, Kathy Lou; two sons, Harold and Morris Arndt; and one great-granddaughter, Jennifer Severe; sister, Marian Bushbaum; and three brothers, Merle, Milford and Royal Nelsen.

I'm Valdon Nelsen, son of Milford and Pearl Nelsen. My thoughts and prayers are with you in your time of grief. My memory of Aunt Margret and family is at their home in winter, with enough snow to dig tunnels with Harold.May your memories bring you comfort.God Bless, Valdon Nelsen

I'm Vicki Nelsen Katzman, daughter of Milford and Pearl Nelsen (Margaret's brother). My sister Suellen Nelsen (Lammers), mom and I visited Aunt Margaret about 10 years ago on our way back to Idaho from a trip to Eldorado Springs Missouri. We still talk about the warm welcome we received. Aunt Margaret and her family are in our hearts and prayers.
