Virgil Duit Obituary
Virgil Duit, age 85, of Slater, IA was welcomed into the arms of his Savior on January 1, 2025. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 3 from 4 until 7 p.m. at the Slater Baptist Church, 601 Story Street, Slater, IA. A Celebration of Life service will be Saturday, January 4, 2025 beginning at 10:30 a.m. at the Slater Baptist Church.
Virgil Edward Duit was born to Aeilt and Dena (Brower) Duit on May 22, 1939 in Geneva, IA. He graduated from Geneva High School and went on to earn a Bachelor's Degree in Education at Upper Iowa University. Virgil met Audrey Held and the two were married on August 28, 1960 at the Methodist Church in Geneva, IA.
Virgil is preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Duane Duit, Carlene Steding, Calvin Duit and brother-in-law's, Keith Burman and James Harty. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Audrey; five children, Bonita (Jerry) Wiley of Bondurant, IA, Brenda (Joseph) Schafbuch of Madrid, IA, Belinda (Craig) Schafbuch of Huxley, IA, Barbara (Brian) Hillesheim of New Ulm, MN, Bryce (Teresa) Duit of Bondurant, IA ; 17 grandchildren, Krista (Alysha) Summers, Nathan (Elizabeth) Wiley, Whitney (Jordan) Funkhouser, Sawyer (Natalie) Schafbuch, Bailey (Andrew) Puhrmann, Quincy (Seth) Evans, Caleb (Megan) Schafbuch, Isaac (Sydni) Schafbuch, Aubrey Schafbuch and (Gavin Tierney), Kelly (Holden) Blythe, Rachael (Christopher) Schaudt, Derek Schafbuch, Jordan (Aunna) Hillesheim, Jackson Hillesheim, Lucas (Taylor) Duit, Trey (Kaylie) Duit and Payton (Taylor) Duit; 23 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Norma Burman of Aplington, IA, Lavonna (Marlan) Meyer, Latimer, IA; sister-in-law, Marjorie Duit of Nevada, IA and many nieces and nephews.
Adams-Soderstrum Funeral Home in Slater is assisting the family with arrangements and online condolences may be left for the family at www.adamssoderstrum.com.
