Zachary Graney Obituary
A funeral service for Zach will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 27, at the First Covenant Church, 411 S. Ohio, Mason City, with Pastor Tammy Swanson-Draheim officiating. Burial will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery, Highway 122, West, Mason City.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Hogan-Bremer-Moore Colonial Chapel, 126 Third St. N.E., Mason City. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to service time on Wednesday at the church.
The family of Zach would like to suggest that memorial contributions be directed to the Zachary Graney Memorial Fund.
Zachary "Zach" Robert Graney was born on Jan. 10, 1994, in Mason City, the son of Shane and Karry (Matz) Graney. Zach was a junior at the Mason City High School. Zach played football in the past in the Mason City schools, and was an avid Denver Broncos and Iowa Hawkeye fan. Zach enjoyed camping, playing video games, his two dogs, Sadie and Emma, was an avid music lover, and was a very loving and kind soul to everyone who would do anything for his family and friends. Zach's great love and enjoyment was being with his family and many friends.
Those left to cherish his memory are his parents, Shane and Karry Graney of Mason City; his sister, Madison Graney of Mason City; maternal grandparents, Glyse and Virgil Matz of Mason City; paternal grandfather, Jerry Graney of Mason City; his aunts and uncles, David (Geri) Matz of Clear Lake, Laurie (Dennis) Berk of Bentonville, Ark., Brad (Patti) Peterson of Mason City, and Nick Howard of Joplin, Mo.; his special cousins, David Michael Matz and Cody Matz both of Clear Lake, Brittany and Paige Berk both of Bentonville, Ark., Danielle and Josh Howard of Joplin, Mo., Matthew Peterson of Des Moines, and Abbey and Whitney Peterson both of Mason City, and Andrew Peterson of Cottage Grove, Wis.; great uncle and aunt Wally and Jackie Kimmel of Spencer; as well as other extended family members and many friends.
Zach will be sadly missed and greatly remembered by all who know him.
Zach was preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Bobbie Olsen; aunt, Pam Howard; uncle, Steve Peterson, and great grandparents, Berle and Mary Hanson and Harriett Kimmel.
Zach's sister Madison would like everyone to know that not only was Zach her brother, but Zach was her very best friend and she will miss him greatly.

Me and Maddie used to be really close. and i miss that. The first thing I noticed when I first met Zach was his smile. When you see his smile, it makes everyone happy. I didn't know Zach that well. but when I heard he died, I cried. When returning high school, everything seemed empty.. especially study hall. (I had study hall with him). Zach is missed. a lot. Though we cannot see him visibly anymore, he will always be a part of everyone's lives and has made a big impact in everyone's lives.. The memories and his smile will last forever. rip zach graney

I am so deeply sorry that Zach was taken from you and from the world at such a young age. He truly was a kind and loving soul. I had to smile when I read Angie Walker's Guest Book note about how Zach gave toys and a Spiderman Tshirt to her little son Zach because your Zach gave my little nephew Kale his matchbox cars and his big plastic toy box saying he had "outgrown them" and wanted Kale to have them. Our preschooler Kale always told us that "Big Zach gave me these cars" (Zach Walker is referred to by us as "Little Zach"). You are wonderful parents and a wonderful sister and you will always be Zach's parents and sister. And my family will always remember him fondly.

Karry and family, Everything happens for a reason, we may not always understand what that reason is, but know God has a better plan for Zach. Karry and Shane and Maddison..... there are so many things that I remember about your son that its tough to lose someone that you love so much because in 2006 bone cancer took my uncle and he will be always looking out for me. Zachary will always be your son no matter what nobody can take that away from you he was a good kid.Now I wish that we could turn the time cards and hope this would've never happened but we can't but he will always be with you no matter what.
P.S. Zach u were an awesome best friend when we went to hoover all of us at MCHS will be thinking of you and still hope ur spirit will walk those halls of the school.

Shane, Kerry and Madison, we are so sorry about the loss of Zach, he was such an amazing person. He was truely a one of a kind kid. I don't ever remember seeing Zach without a smile on his face. We are going to miss seeing him walking by our house with the headphones on, listening to his music or playing outside your house with the dogs. Our Zach still has the Spiderman shirt that Zach gave to him and the toys he gave him as a kid. He was so sweet. I only wish there was something we could do or say to help you though this difficult time. mom Some things I'd like to say but first of all to let you know that I arrived okay. I'm writing this from Heaven where I dwell with God above where there's no more tears or sadness there is just eternal love. Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night. That day I had to leave you when my life on Earth was through, God picked me up and hugged me and He said I welcome you. It's good to have you back again, you were missed while you were gone, as for your dearest family they'll be here later on. I need you here so badly as part of My big plan, there's so much that we have to do to help our mortal man. Then God gave me a list of things He wished for me to do, and foremost on that list of mine is to watch and care for you. And I will be beside you every day and week and year, and when you're sad, I'm standing there to wipe away the tear. And when you lie in bed at night, the days chores put to flight, God and I are closest to you in the middle of the night. When you think of my life on Earth and all those loving years, because you're only human they are bound to bring you tears. But do not be afraid to cry, it does relieve the pain, remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain. I wish that I could tell you of all that God has planned, but if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand. But one thing is for certain, though my life on Earth is o'er. I am closer to you now than I ever was before. And to my very many friends, trust God knows what is best. I'm still not far away from you, I'm just beyond the crest. There are rocky roads ahead of you, and many hills to climb, but together we can do it taking one day at a time. It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too that as you give unto the World so the World will give to you. If you can help somebody who is in sorrow or in pain, then you can say to God at night my day was not in vain. And now I am contented that my life it was worthwhile, knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile. So if you meet somebody who is down and feeling low, just lend a hand to pick him up as on your way you go. When you are walking down the street and you've got me on your mind, I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind. And when you feel the gentle breeze or the wind upon your face, that's me giving you a great big hug or just a soft embrace.
