I didn't find out about Barry's passing until yesterday. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Barry was a bigger than life character that none of us that knew him will ever forget. Even those of us on the periphery of Barry's life will continue to tell stories about him that will bring a smile to others. He will indeed be missed by many.

Ruby,Ricky, Jessi and Jamie,

I'm so sorry about Barry. You know how special he was to me. I guess you could say he was like my brother for so many years. We've been through so much together. We were just little kids when we met and made so many fun memories. Woodberry Hills was the best. that's where all the fun times were. Playing kickball in the street on Idlewood Terrace, to building forts in the woods, to sleigh riding down the hills at Woodberry School, where the barrels of fire were to warm us up. (with hot chocolate of course). You were the best of the best. Always a smile on your face even when we knew you were mad. We have know each other for 38 years, and we are still friends after 38 years, that says alot Barry Crane.

To the family, You will remain in my prayers and to the girls make your dad proud and follow the right paths in life by walking side by side with God. You can never go wrong by doing that......

Dear Mrs. Crane & Ricky,

I was so sorry to hear about Barry.

He was a fun kid growing up with. I remember babysitting for he and Rick although we were close in age. He loved to play jokes and especially loved to climb out the upstairs window and sneak off to play in the snow. Ricky and I spent many a night "looking for Barry" before you and Mr. Crane came home. I'm sure he will be missed but will be playing jokes in heaven now.

Sincerely,

Paula (Starnes) Ford and family

Dear Ruby and family,

I am in total shock. Barry was a great personal friend to not only me but most all of the Danville Police before my retirement months ago. Barry was just a "Super Guy" and had a big heart. His personality proved him to be a person of character and respect. Our family is and will be in prayer for all the family. My God bless his children and comfort the entire family. Paul & Patti

Vanessa Fowlkes called me early Saturday morning from Richmond to let me know of Barry's passing. At first I was numb. Then so many memories began to come back to me. It broke my heart to know he had passed. Barry was the first person I knew to have a ferret for a pet. The first person I knew to have 3 tv's in one room...he had to explain that concept to me. I can remember laughing with he and Robert until it hurt to laugh anymore. The proudest I had ever known him to be...was when he called me at the radio station to let me know his first child had been born! As if he wanted to shout it from the highest mountain. He is truly one of God's special souls, and even though our paths haven't crossed in a few years, still the memories will live in my heart forever. Sweet, funny, kind hearted Barry, we will see you again one bright day. Take care of yourself Robert. And to his girls...I know your hearts must be broken...I lost my Dad when I was a young teenager...very suddenly of a heart attack. I know it's not easy. Life is about choices...always make sure you make good choices in your lives. And know that the proudest I ever knew your Father to be was when he took on the title of "Father" to you girls.

Please accept my deepest and most sincere sympathy to Barry's Family. He is so very special, and will live on in the hearts of so many people who loved him. I will never forget him.

Dear Uncle Barry,

We just want you to know that we love you, always have, always will. We'll miss you at family dinners cracking your funny wise jokes. One of my fondest memories is when you took me, Justin, and my best friend Emily to the beach. I remember sitting on the deck chatting about everything while listening to the waves of the ocean. Remembering can often be bittersweet, can't it?!?! Nonetheless, thanks for the memories! Love you much!!
