Bobby Lee Chattin, 88 of 227 Eastwood Drive, Danville, Va., was born on December 19, 1926, and God smiled. On Friday, July 17, 2015, God received Bobby into his Kingdom and Bobby smiled.Mr. Chattin was born in Danville, Va., the son of the late Henry Chattin and Stella Hardy Chattin. He had lived all of his life in Danville where he had retired from the former Dan River Mills, Inc. Riverside Division after 46 years of service. He was an active member of Central Blvd. Church of God for over 70 years. Mr. Chattin had served as the church clerk for 25 years and on the Board of Trustees. Bobby was still an active member of the Dan River Retirees Club. He served with U.S. Navy on board the USS Rizze.Bobby had a natural ability to make one feel loved and important. His legacy of calm integrity, faith, family and friends will be remembered by all with whom he shared life. He was a kind and very generous man.On July 19, 1946, Bobby married Myrtle Vernon Chattin who survives of the residence. He is also survived by two sons, Kelly Chattin and wife, Nancy, of Jonesborough, Tenn., Larry Chattin and wife, Pat, of Danville, Va.; three grandchildren, Dr. Heather C. Ponce and husband, Dr. Jaime Ponce, Spencer Chattin and wife, Cara, Grayson Chattin; four great-grandchildren, Isabel, Ella, Josie and Alex; and a special brother-in-law, Ralph Wall, who Bobby considered the brother he never had, and wife Nancy.He was predeceased by his parents; and one son, Timothy Douglas Chattin.Funeral services will be conducted on Monday, July 20, 2015, at 7:30 p.m. from Central Blvd. Church of God by the Reverend John Meadows. Interment will be conducted on Tuesday at 11 a.m. in Highland Burial Park with Military Honors conducted by the U.S. Navy. The family will receive friends at the church on Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30. p.m. and at other times they will be at the residence 227 Eastwood Drive, Danville, VA 24540.
