I just talked with Mom (Katherine Farmer Hawker) and we were sad that we could not be there. We talked about our many good memories of Uncle Charlie. She recalled seeing him for the first time when he was an 11-year old boy in her one-room schoolhouse--full of mischief. We had a good laugh at somethings she still remembers from those times. We remembered, too, his generosity and many kindnesses over the years. He will certainly be missed. My love to Aunt Mary Alice and the children. My thoughts are with you all.

To the Hawker family,
My sympathy to you all. Charlie was a character- he kept me laughing!
I worked for Jack Cooper, so this is where I met your father. Obviously, he made a lot of impressions in many lives.

Dennis, Jane, and Brenda,
I cannot possibly recall all of the wonderful memories I have of the times I spent at your and your father's house throughout the years. From the time he gave me my first bird dog at age 15 through all the reunion weekends, the pig roasts, the singing, Uncle Charlie and Aunt Mary Alice were always the most cordial and, dare I say exciting, hosts. He will certainly be missed.
My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Uncle Charlie looms large in my family memories. Reunions at his home with lots of good food and fantastic singing are precious remembrances to all of us who were there. My sympathy to Jane and Brenda, and Dennis. Hug your mother for me.

I am sad to hear about Charlie's passing. He was a complicated person, but many times very kind to Ben and me. He was quick to help when Ben had to be hospitalized on the way back home years ago. I would attend his funeral if I were not in a nursing home myself. I'll think of you all tomorrow with much love.
