Charlie Letcher Alderson, 80, of Winston-Salem, N.C., passed away on Saturday, September 30, 2017, at Lexington Hospital after a decline in health over the past few months. A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m., Saturday, October 21, 2017, at Griffith Baptist Church, 1987 Old Salisbury Rd., Winston-Salem, NC 27127, and Pastor Bobby Vaughan will be officiating. Charlie will be cremated. There will be another life service, 1 p.m. Saturday, December 16, 2017, at Laurel Grove Community Center, 415 Laurel Grove Rd., Sutherlin, VA 24594. Memorials may be made to the Humane Society. Charlie was born on June 26, 1937, in Pittsylvania County, Virginia, to Charlie and Betty Alderson. On December 15, 1958, he married the former Joyce Ann Woodall in Danville, Virginia.They moved to Winston-Salem in 1967, while Charlie was a construction worker and it became home for his family. Charlie was employed as a mechanic for the City of Winston-Salem where he retired in 1999. He enjoyed being a mechanic, fishing, wood working, and gardening. Charlie is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Shotwell; a brother, Nathanial Alderson; three daughters, Melody Brown and her husband, David, of Winston-Salem, Deanie Foster and her husband, Donnie Jr., of Winston-Salem, and Pamela Shillinglaw and her husband, Thomas, of Lexington, N.C.; six grandchildren, David Michael Brown Jr., Jacob Brown, Gracie Geisler, Brittany Ward, Jessea Snider, and Jedadiah Shillinglaw; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Joyce Ann Alderson (Woodall) in 2014; and three brothers, Budge, George, and Harvey Alderson.
