Jacob Payne Obituary
October 22, 1927 - March 9, 2022
Jacob "Jake" Timothy Payne Jr. passed away at home on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at the age of 94.
A native of Danville, Va., Jake was the son of the late Jacob Timothy Payne and Fannie Belle Grimes Payne. He proudly served two tours of duty in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Korean War and was a store keeper on the U.S.S. Sturtevant DE 239. He graduated from National Business College in Roanoke, Va. in 1954 and enjoyed a long and successful career as a computer programmer and systems analyst at General Electric in Salem, Va. and Mebane, N.C. and at Northern Telecom in Durham, N.C.
He was married to Alice Linda Patton Payne of Hickory, N.C. for 47 years until her death in 2010. He was a loving and supportive father to his four children who survive him, Anthony Neal "Tony" Payne (Gail) of Buchanan, Va., Tina Marie Payne Peters of Grand Junction, Colo., Lindsey Hope Payne of Apex, N.C., and Valerie Payne Drummond (Mike) of Burlington, N.C. He is survived by 10 grandchildren, Timothy Stephen Payne, Bethanne Nicole Payne, Rebekah Suzanne Payne, Michael Christopher Payne, Christiana Lynette Payne Cathey (Doug), Jonathan Graham Payne, Sarah Elizabeth Payne, Cayce Elizabeth Peters, Mary Daniel Cheek, and Hayden Thomas Cheek; and two great-grandchildren, Taylor Ryann Pickel and Evelyn Rose Cathey.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife; an infant daughter, Nancy Ann Payne; a grandson, Navy SEAL SO1 Remington Jordan Peters; two sisters, Geneva Payne Bridges and Jeanette Payne Dodd; and three brothers, Woodrow Jefferson Payne, William Leonard Payne, and Curtis Wesley Payne.
The family wishes to thank the members of Hawfields Presbyterian Church, his neighbors, and friends for their many acts of loving kindness.
