James Bolling Obituary

James Herman Bolling

GRETNA - James Herman (J. Herman Bolling), of 2840 W. Gretna Road, Gretna, was born Nov. 3, 1919. Having had a long, full and independent life on his beloved tobacco/cattle farm, he died Friday, Oct. 16, 2009, at his home at the age of 89. A Gretna High School graduate, Herman was employed for many years by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Company.

He was the elder son of Allie James Bolling and Elsie Bennett Bolling. He was predeceased by his wife of 65 years, Patsy Mattox Bolling. Herman is survived by two children, Glenn H. Bolling and his wife, Patsy, of Richmond, and Joan Bolling-May and her husband, Hank, of Silver Spring, Md.; a brother, Elwood Bolling, of Gretna; two grandchildren, John G. Bolling, of St. Louis, Mo., and Deborah B. Porter, of Fairfax; and four great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19, 2009, at Anderson Memorial United Methodist Church, by the Rev. John Snyder. Interment will follow in Gretna Burial Park.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today, Oct. 18, 2009, at Colbert-Moran Funeral Home and at other times will be at the Bolling residence, 2840 W. Gretna Road, Gretna.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to Gretna Rescue Squad, P. O. Box 14, Gretna, VA 24557

Colbert-Moran Funeral Home, Gretna, is in charge of arrangements.
