John McLarty Obituary

John Andrew McLarty

John Andrew McLarty, 71, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by loved ones, on August 3, 2025, in Providence, North Carolina, after a decline in health.

Born on July 22, 1954, in London, Ontario, Canada, John's life was marked by dedication to public service, a passion for learning, and a deep love for his family and community. He pursued higher education with determination, earning an M.B.A. from Wake Forest University and later a Master of Entrepreneurship from Western Carolina University, credentials that would serve as the foundation for a meaningful and impactful career.

John began his professional journey with the North Carolina Department of Correction as a Field Compliance Specialist. In this role, he oversaw operations at 21 state correctional facilities across the region. His commitment to excellence and integrity earned him respect throughout the department. After years of dedicated service, he retired in 2018 as an Administrative Officer. In addition to his work with the Department of Correction, John also served as Dean of Piedmont Community College in Caswell County, a position he held with great pride and enthusiasm.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, John was known for his unmistakable radio voice that could light up any room. He had a joyful spirit and infectious laughter that endeared him to all who knew him. A true lover of life's pleasures, John was an avid reader and traveler who found joy in exploring new places and ideas. He was also a devoted sports fan with a particular fondness for hockey and football.

John, a self-proclaimed foodie, particularly enjoyed dining at Lillard's Family Restaurant, where he not only relished delicious meals but also built lasting friendships with staff and fellow patrons.

John is survived by his beloved wife Melanie McLarty; his children Angus McLarty (Krista), Tena McLarty, Zia McLarty, and Brock McLarty (Aeriel); his brother Bruce McLarty (Lynda); his six beautiful grandchildren, nieces, and nephews; and his cherished furbaby, BooBoo, who never left his side. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ethel Fern Pechta and James Lloyd McLarty; his sister, Penny McLarty; and his brother, Mitchell McLarty.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Amedisys Hospice team in Burlington, NC, especially Marvin Ollison and Jessica Hearn, for their compassionate care during John's final days.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caswell County Outreach Ministry at 225 Third Avenue, Yanceyville, NC 27379, a cause close to John's heart.

May John Andrew McLarty's memory bring comfort to those who knew him and continue to inspire all whose lives he touched.
