Born February 23, 1943, Larry proudly served in the United States Army and later embarked on an entrepreneurial journey with his wife, VA. Together they founded Lava Enterprises, a trucking company that played a key role in hauling computers for IBM during the early 1980s personal computer revolution. In 1994, they relocated the business to Danville, where Larry worked alongside his sons and later expanded into a portable storage company and a freight brokerage. Larry and Virginia were honored with the 2005 Enduring Enterprise Award by the Danville-Pittsylvania County Chamber of Commerce, Inc.
He was best known for his quick wit, his sense of humor, and the memorable one-liners that could light up a room. Larry was of the Christian faith and experienced a life-changing conversion in the late 1970s at Calvary Church of the Nazarene.
He is survived by his son, Brandon (Jennifer); grandchildren, Jeff Jr., Benjamin (Brenna), Noah, Andrew, Bailey, and Mariah; and his faithful dog, Dude. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia; his son, Jeff; mother, Gladys Edna Mayhew Williams; father, Ernest Williams; and sister, Sue Perkins.
A funeral service will be held Friday, October 10, 2025, 10 a.m. at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel with Pastor Jim Reed officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Burial Park. A visitation will be held Thursday, October 9, 2025, 6 to 8 p.m., also at Norris Funeral Service, Mt. Hermon Chapel.
At other times, the family will receive friends and family at the residence of his son, Brandon Williams, 411 Pittwood Dr., Danville, VA.
