PAUL MARLOWE Obituary

Paul Alandras Marlowe

Paul Alandras Marlowe, 68, went home to be with his Heavenly Father on Sunday, October 17, 2010, after a long, courageous battle with COPD. He is now breathing freely in the arms of Jesus and his family. Paul was born April 7, 1942, in Danville, VA to Paul Woodrow and Louise Beard Marlowe, but lost his mother when he was 5 years old. He entered the U.S. Army at the age of 17, serving 3 years. Upon returning home, went back to high school and earned his GED. He worked for Dan River, Inc. for 5 years and Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company for 32 years.

In January, 1971, Paul met the love of his life, Marie, when he asked her for a dance, and they were married January 1, 1972. She brought with her a 5-year old son, Joey, whom Paul readily adopted and gave his name. He always said he could never love any child more than he loved Joey. He and Marie were married for 38 joyous years. They struggled together, laughed together, loved together, danced together, and loved their family together. He loved his "home" and being with loved ones, especially at Christmas. He was further blessed with two granddaughters, Hannah and Alex, whom he adored. Paul was a kind, generous person, always putting the needs of his family and friends before his own. Even as his disease progressed, his greatest happiness in life was seeing his wife happy and he was never, ever bitter about his health. He attributed this entirely to his close, personal, loving, relationship with his Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ. He was a member of St. Luke's United Methodist Church.

Paul became a 32nd Degree Mason at the age of 21. He was a member of many organizations, including Morotock Lodge, Danville Elks Lodge, American Legion Post #325, Forty & Eight, Burlington and Danville Shrine Clubs, Improved Order of Redmen, and Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees (SOAR).

In addition to his wife, Marie, he is survived by his son, Joey Michael Marlowe and partner, Chad Matthew Collins of Greensboro, NC; his granddaughters, Hannah Marie Marlowe and Alexandra Patricia Marlowe; his brother, John Thomas Marlowe (Karen), of Richmond, VA; his sister, Sue Marlowe Akers ("Butch") of Dublin, VA; a large, extended family, many friends, and special cat, "Boo".

A very special thanks to Dr. W. W. Henderson, IV, Dr. Thomas J. O'Neill, Dr. Kimberly Bird, and the wonderful staff at Danville Pulmonary Clinic for their many years of special care. Also, thank you to Home Oxygen & Medical Equipment, Dr. Bosh Zakhary, Danville Internal Medicine, Best Home Medical, and Danville Orthopedic and Athletic Rehabilitation.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, October 19, 2010 from 7:00 to 8:30 PM at Townes Funeral Home and other times at the residence. A celebration of Paul's life will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 4:00 PM at Townes Memorial Chapel, with Rev. Valerie White officiating, followed by burial in Highland Burial Park with military honors by American Legion Dan River Post 1097 and The Virginia Army National Guard Honor Guard.

Flowers are welcome, however, contributions may be made to the Danville Life Saving Crew in lieu of this if desired. Townes Funeral Home is serving the Marlowe family.
