TROY — Alvin R. "Ronnie" Witcher, age 85 of Troy, Illinois, born July 5, 1935 in Biggers, Arkansas, passed away on Monday, Dec. 28, 2020 at Anderson Hospital in Maryville, Illinois.
Ronnie retired from LaClede Steel after 30 years of service as a steelworker.
He was an Army veteran, and a member of the Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ.
He was an avid bowler at the former Montclaire Bowl and had mentored high school bowlers.
He enjoyed reading and fishing but most of all spending time with his family.
Ronnie was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be dearly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Alexander and Gwendolyn (nee Hord) Witcher; sister, Shirley Peckham; and an infant sister.
He is survived by his wife, Sue (nee Avent) Witcher, whom he married Dec. 18, 1976; two daughters, Amy (Reggie) Weaver of Glen Carbon, Illinois, and Holly Swain of Shiloh, Illinois; eight grandchildren, Peyton (Jaden Zerby), Preston and Parker Weaver, Cameron, Gwendolyn, Cruize, Evangeline and Juliet Swain; and a sister, Betty (Erv) Inskip of Trenton, Illinois.
Visitation will be 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 at Collinsville-Troy Church of Christ, 1400 Troy Road, Collinsville, Illinois.
Funeral service will be at 11 a.m. following the visitation with Minister Terry Mabery officiating.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Edwardsville, Illinois.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Ronnie's honor to Shultz-Lewis Child & Family Services in Valparaiso, Indiana, and will be received at the visitation or can be mailed to the funeral home at 2800 N. Center Street, Maryville, IL 62062.
