Charles Dilly Obituary

Charles E. "Charlie" Dilly, 74, of Prairietown, IL, passed from this life on Friday, April 14, 2017, after a valiant battle against cancer, at home in Edwardsville surrounded by family.
Charlie was born December 10, 1942, in St. Louis, MO, the first child of Charles F. "Pat" Dilly and Ruth L.Weyrauch Dilly.
On May 17, 1969, he married Marilyn Fawkes in Brentwood, MO. They lived in St. Louis until moving to their farm near Prairietown in 1980.
Charlie attended Brentwood High School and Washington University. He was a veteran of the United States Army, serving from 1964 until his discharge as a First Lieutenant in 1971.
He worked in engineering, sales, and management in the heavy equipment industry for various companies until 1984 when he "retired" to full-time management of their rental properties in Alton. When he was not working on houses, the farm, or cars, Charlie loved fishing in his own ponds, local lakes, and Missouri trout streams. A highlight of every fall was hunting pheasants in South Dakota with cousins and friends.
Charlie leaves behind his wife Marilyn Dilly; daughter, Mirage Eldridge (husband Shawn) of Rhome, TX; daughter, Bena Weeks (fiancé Terry Burk) of Edwardsville, IL; grandson, Fletcher Weeks of Edwardsville, IL; brother, Don Dilly (Kay) of Lake St. Louis, MO; sister, Judy Harris (Mike) of Brentwood, MO; nephew, Todd Dilly (Laura Rice) of St Charles, MO; niece, Tara Dilly of St Peters, MO; brother-in-law, Don Fawkes (Janice Marr) of Florida; numerous cousins and many friends.
He is preceded in death by his parents, half-sister Delores Hines née Dilly, many aunts, uncles, and several special cousins.
Following his wishes, cremation rites were performed.
Charlie loved a good story or prank and delivered both with a unique style. We will be having a memorial/celebration of his life for family and friends to share these memories in the near future when plans are made.

It has been three years since I last looked into your eyes as we said goodbye. The hole that appeared in my chest that day remains as a dull ache, which sometimes is more painful. I hope you are able to see our family and to know how much you are missed as we go on with our lives. We all miss you and value the many things that you taught us. You are always with us. I love you, Charlie.

I'm remembering so many Thanksgiving days we celebrated with family. Today has been bitter/sweet as I spent my day with family but without you. There is still much to be thankful for and so many beautiful memories. I love you, Charlie.

Dear Raj, I am so sorry that your Dad lost his battle with Cancer. From what you had told me he had put up a really tough fight. He was a very brave soul. Knowing you as such a kind and caring person, your Dad and Mom did a great job with guiding you through life. It is obvious that you got your strength from you Dad. Be strong for your Mom and sister. God Bless Charlie and may he Rest in Peace.
