She graduated from High School in Deleon, Texas, as the Salutatorian in 1925 and at 16 years of age went to business school on a scholarship in Abilene, Texas. After graduating as a bookkeeper she worked in Abilene where she met and married Harvey Lee Monk on July 4, 1928. Harvey and Allene lived and worked in Abilene, including brief stops in Lamesa and Monahans, and they ranched in Callahan County. The 1950s drought forced them out of Texas to buy a ranch and move to North West Arkansas but they returned to Texas after a brief stay of a few years. After working in Pecos, Texas, for 10 years they returned to the ranch in the Ozarks where they again ranched for several years before retiring to a horse farm near Dublin, Texas. After selling out in Dublin they returned to Abilene in 1973 where they remained until their deaths. While originally in Abilene, a daughter Jeanne and a son Sherman were born. It was in Abilene where Harvey Monk died on July 31, 1980, after 52 wonderful years of marriage. It was also in Abilene where Allene met and married Roy Cochran in August 1984.
