Clyde McCollough, age 92, recently of Hillsboro, Texas, went to be with his God and Savior Jesus Christ on Aug. 8, 2017, completely surrounded by his loving family.

Memorial graveside services is at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 10, 2017, in Lawnhaven Memorial Gardens in San Angelo, Texas.

Clyde was born Sept. 10, 1924, in Deridder, Louisiana, to Jack and Susie McCollough. Clyde was a resident of San Angelo, Texas from 1967 to 2012. Clyde was an Alumnus of Central Bible Institute in Springfield, Missouri with a Major in Theology and later studied at Southwestern Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

He married Mavis Elizabeth Waters, Nov. 9, 1942, in DeRidder, Louisiana and they had one daughter, Elizabeth Ann. In 1943, he volunteered to serve in World War II as a part of the campaign in the South Pacific. His company was given the Unit Presidential Citation for carrying out the destruction of the 6th Japanese Division on Bouganville, Philippines. Clyde was awarded two Bronze Stars for bravery for bringing wounded American soldiers back from the enemy lines.

After the war, Clyde returned to his sincere calling to preach the gospel and minister to people. Traveling internationally, Clyde and Mavis then worked with missions, establishing a church in the town of Banau, Dominican Republic. Later awarded a Doctorate of Humanities Degree for his distinctive services of moral and financial support in the cause of early education and upbringing of the youth in Balanga Bataan Philippines. He and Mavis then traveled to Giessen, Germany in 1978 where he served as pastor for an English speaking church through the European Baptist Convention. Returning to the United States he then spent the remaining years of his ministry pastoring in the Texas towns of Tennyson, Benjamin, Galveston and Glen Cove.

He retired from pastoring 1996, but continued his ministry as he became the on-site supervisor for Habitat for Humanity of San Angelo, finding joy in helping more than 55 families build their own homes. Also with Habitat for Humanity he participated in the Jimmy and Rosalyn Carter's building blitz of more than 100 homes in Tennessee and later another 100 homes in Houston.

Reverend Clyde McCollough is survived by his daughter, Elizabeth Ann Harrell, of Hillsboro, Texas, his grandchildren, Renee Constancio and husband Marcus, of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Debra Lindsey and friend Billy Sherman of Huntsville, Texas, Robert Harrell and his wife, Melissa of Midland, Texas and Chris Harrell of Midland, Texas. His memory will be cherished by his great-grandchildren, Paul Constancio, Matthew Lindsey, Kelly Williams and her husband, Derek, Brittany Harrell, Kayleah Harrell, Zachary Harrell, Ashley Harrell and Sheldon Harrell, as well as great-great-grandchildren, Nathan and Juliet Rose Constancio, Caleb Windham, Jayden Ryan and Ryland Michelle Lindsey, Paisley Ray and David Rhett Williams.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 70 years, Mavis; his parents; three brothers; four sisters; son-in-law and best friend John Harrell; and great-grandson Anthony Windham.

A true man of God...he will be missed. As a young minister in the 70's Clyde was a mentor to me and was a true friend.
