Ruby Sloan Obituary

SAN SABA Ruby Sloan, 99, of San Saba, passed away on Monday, Oct. 22, 2012. Service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 25, 2012, at New Hope Presbyterian Church in the Sloan community of San Saba County. Ruby Sloan was born on Oct. 7, 1913, to Claude T. Wood and Mary Belle Wigginton Wood in Brady, Texas. She married Jack H. Sloan on June 30, 1934. They had three children, Josephine Sloan, Pete Sloan and Sam W. Sloan. They lived in McCulloch County for several years. Then they moved to San Saba around 1938, where she lived the rest of her life. Ruby was very active in New Hope Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. She was a member of the Women of the Church group. But most of Ruby's time was spent at home. Cooking and tending to her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was a full-time job. She was noted for the best hot rolls around. Ruby is survived by her daughter, Josephine Sloan; sons Pete Sloan and wife Lana and Sam W. Sloan and wife Ginger; grandchildren Ted Ward, Wesley Ward, Lisa Foil, Cindy Sloan, Marcus Sloan, Bret Sloan and Stephanie Faught; 13 great- grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Preceding Ruby in death were her parents; and her husband. Dr. John Davenport will be officiating the service. Pallbearers are her great-grandsons, Ben Rollins, Andrew Rollins, Michael Ward, Neil Ward, Ryan Ward, Levon Ward, Will Ward, Dustin Sloan and Ridge Smith. Honorary pallbearers are her grandsons, Ted Ward, Wesley Ward, Marcus Sloan and Bret Sloan. Services are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home San Saba.
