Douglass Harris Shermeta, born in Grand Haven, Michigan, on March 10, 1944, passed away on Dec. 31, 2023, in Muncie, Indiana.
Doug's heart was large, his wit was sharp, and he was happiest when looking out onto Lake Michigan. He graduated from Grand Haven High School in 1962, from The University of Michigan in 1966, and from Wayne State Law School in 1969. He spent his life in pursuit of opportunities for his family, and cherished the connections with his lifelong friends.
He is dearly missed by his four children, eight grandchildren, and two nephews. It brought him great comfort to think he'd soon be reunited with his beloved family members that preceded him in death, father Peter, mother Stella, and his big broski Dennis.

My heart breaks in seeing this. I was searching for him in earlier in December, as I have several times in the past, just wanting to see or talk to him. He was my last link to Denny. I loved your father. he was always kind to me and my family, especially my mom. My prayers go out to the four of you.

Ivars and I were classmates of Doug´s in high school and at the University of Michigan. He was always a loving and faithful friend who cared deeply about his roots and memories. We would often receive phone calls from him to just to be checking on us or reminiscing about old times. We are totally shocked to find that we have lost this buddy.

I got the pleasure of being one of his favorite cooks for several years. I´ll keep with me all the wonderful wisdom and conversations we shared. I´m so glad I got the honor of getting to know him. My heart and prayers go out to his family may they find comfort in him finally finding peace.

I worked for Doug for two summers, helping take care of his kids at their summer cottage in Grand Haven. Great guy. I remember him fondly. Condolences to Drew, Peter, Lesley, Allison and the rest of the family.

Doug was a classmate of my husband, Dave Horton. We enjoyed his company during class reunions and on a few other occasions. My condolences to his family.
