Kenneth Wayne and Sharyn Jean (Bates) Westerhouse were united in marriage on October 19, 1968, in Grand Haven, Michigan. Sharyn was born March 2, 1945, in Muskegon, Michigan, and passed away Wednesday, November 22, 2023; and Kenneth was born May 29, 1940, in Grand Haven, Michigan, and passed away Friday, November 24, 2023. They were lovingly reunited within several hours when they went home to be with their Lord.
They both were life-long area residents of Grand Haven, and active members of Hope Church, where they especially enjoyed being involved with Owls, food drives and Wednesday night meals. They also loved all their special times spent with family, and traveling up north to their Long Lake getaway, where they went fishing and hunting. They also enjoyed bowling on leagues at the former Starlite Lanes Bowling Alley.
Ken proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force, from 1963 to 1967, during the Vietnam War Era. He was employed for 28 years with Shape Corporation, and enjoyed history, shipwrecks, two-tracking up north, and was well known for his sense of humor and teasing.
Throughout the years, Sharyn was employed by People's Bank, Rich's Grocery and Meijer, and provided day care. She enjoyed being with people, searching for old books, cooking, playing bingo, and taking an occasional trip to the casino. Sharyn was well known for her beautiful penmanship.
They both will be lovingly remembered and missed by their daughter, Kelly (Nathan) Mueller; and son, Matthew Westerhouse; grandchildren: Lindsey and Kendra Westerhouse, and Morgan and Tanner Mueller; Ken's sister, Joyce Daane; Sharyn's sister and brother, Cheryl Horton and John (Jackie) Bates; in-laws, Marge Westerhouse and Shirley Westerhouse; as well as several nieces and nephews. They were preceded in death by their parents; and their siblings: Ron, Larry and Don Westerhouse, and Beverly Alman; and brothers-in-law, Al Daane and Dave Horton.
The family would especially like to thank Trinity at Home and SKLD Nursing for their loving care of Kenneth and Sharyn.
A Memorial Service to celebrate their lives will take place at 3 p.m. Wednesday, December 13, 2023, at Hope Church with Pastor Tim Taylor officiating. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held at the Grand Haven Eagles 925 (upstairs hall) following the service on Wednesday, from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to Hope Church, the American Alzheimer's Association-Michigan Chapter, or the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan. I worked with Ken for a looong time at Shape. He was one of the nicest, caring and funny men i have had the pleasure of knowing. He was without a doubt one of the good guys.
