Roger Easton Obituary

Roger Kendal Easton, passed away on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at home. He had been a resident of the Grand Haven area since 1972 and was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, serving from 1951 to 1955, during the Korean Conflict.

Roger graduated from Michigan State University with his degree in Mechanical Engineering and held a variety of engineering and management positions throughout his career. He was very active in the design and installation of the Brass River and the sundial at Ferry Landing, as well as the pendulum at Grand Haven High School.

Roger was very active in engineering and civic activities, serving as Commissioner of the Grand Haven Board of Light and Power and Vice-Chairman of the Grand Haven Economic Development Corporation. He was a member of the CBDDA and TIFA, as well as the Resource Recovery Corporation of West Michigan, the Tri-Cities Historical Museum (and co-chairman of the Committee for the Restoration of the Ackeley building), the Ottawa County Certified Elder Friendly Community Task Force, Grand Haven Rotary (a Paul Harris Fellow), American Foundry Society, MSU Alumni Association, MSU Kedzie Society, and the American Legion.

He was a lifetime member of the Society of Automotive Engineers International and was also a former volunteer at N.O.C.H. Roger attended First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, where he also served as soloist and choir member.

He enjoyed time spent with family, friends, "The Four Seasons," and especially his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved the role of "papa" and supporting his grandchildren in all of their activities, both social and educational. Roger also held his private pilot's license and enjoyed playing tennis and golf.

Roger is survived by his son, Mark (Tracy) Easton; daughter, Pamela Easton DeWitt; grandchildren: Holly Easton, Nicholas (Grace) DeWitt, Hannah (Derek) Cox, Emma (Cory) Anderson, and Abram DeWitt; and three great-grandchildren: Alexander Cox, Remy and River Anderson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Helen (Grant) Easton; his wife of 68 years, Valerie; and three brothers: Thomas, William, and David Easton.

A Private Graveside Service with Full Military Honors by the American Legion, Charles A. Conklin Post 28 will be held at Lake Forest Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Harbor Humane Society or the Tri-Cities Historical Museum.

To Mark and Pam and their loved ones,
No words can express our condolences, both Rick and mine. Uncle Roger will forever live in my heart through all of the fond memories that we´ve had through the years. In Indiana, Wisconsin and Michigan. He had the voice of An angel that he shared throughout the years. Each of you and yours holds a special spot in our hearts. We love you dearly and will always be family.

Pam and Easton Family Members,

My sympathy on the passing of your father Roger. He was a kind neighbor in Dogwood Meadows and helped my mother after my father passed. He also made a point of welcoming me to Dogwood Meadows when I moved in. You should be proud of him. May wonderful memories comfort you in this time of temporary separation.
