Mary Cundiff Obituary

Mary E. (Pratt) Cundiff, 70, a Great Falls homemaker, died Wednesday, April 6, at her home, of complications from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
Her funeral is 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel, with burial in Highland Cemetery. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
Mary was born Jan. 25, 1941, in Fairview, Mont., and was raised on a farm near Fairview. In school, she was active in band, pep band and journalism, winning many awards for her skills in typing and shorthand. Mary also was a good piano player. She composed many of her own songs.
In 1959, three days after graduating from high school, she was united in marriage to Douglas J. Cundiff at Zion Lutheran Church in Fairview.
Doug and Mary moved to Sidney, where they started their family, then moved to Great Falls six years later. The main focus of her life was raising her family. She also helped many of the neighbor children when they needed someone to talk to or a place to stay. She was a member of the archery club, the Black Powder club and Moose club, for which she wrote the monthly newsletter. She was on a bowling league for many years, and was a Campfire Girls leader for several years.
Mary worked for Great Falls Public Schools in the cafeteria, and for a local laundry and dry-cleaning business. She spent her lifetime raising her family.
Mary loved fishing, oil-painting, dancing, bowling, gardening and spending time with her family and friends. She will be remembered for her smile and her never-ending love of her family. She always had a funny story to tell and had a wonderful sense of humor.
Survivors include her husband, Douglas John Cundiff of Great Falls; daughters Lynn Marie Smith of Minot, N.D., and Connie Jean Mitchell of Great Falls; a son, Larry Dean Cundiff of Great Falls; a sister, Nancy Larson Neidhardt of Minot; a brother, Ben Pratt of Twin Falls, Idaho; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kelly Ross Cundiff; and a brother, Joseph Pratt.

My condolences are with the family and friends of Mary. I knew Mary during our four years at Fairview High School. We had several classes together and I always thought highly of Mary. She was friendly, helpful and smiled a lot.
