Steven King Obituary

Steven J. King, 63, of Great Falls, formerly of Fargo N.D., died of cancer Wednesday, June 27, at his home.

His memorial service is 10 a.m. Saturday at Hillcrest Lawn Memorial Chapel. Schnider Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

Steven passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family with the care of Peace Hospice on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, due to complications from cancer. He was born June 8, 1949, in Fargo to Gladys (Savageau) and John W. (Jack) King.

Steven graduated from Shanley High School in Fargo in 1967. He attended NDSU in Fargo, where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity before moving to Great Falls in 1972. There, Steven and his partner Bernie Kambo owned and operated Kambo & King masonry for 36 years before retiring in 2012. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing hockey and softball. He played fast pitch softball for many years for the City Bar and the Flamingo, as well as hockey for the Great Falls Hawks, the Great Falls Flames and the Great Falls Old Timers Silver Fox. His favorite hockey team was the Dallas Stars. He had always wanted to go to a Minnesota Twins game, which was his favorite team, and this last spring he was able to fulfill the dream.

Steven married the love of his life, Jo Suden-King, on Jan. 17, 2009. The love he had for her is the kind most people can only dream of. You could tell this by the way he looked at her when she was looking and even more so, by the way he looked at her when she wasn't looking.

Some of his favorite hobbies and pastimes were hunting, fishing and spending time with his family and friends. You could find him on his annual hunting trips to Augusta with his friends and family and their famous last words. 'We're going to the cabin, be back at the end of hunting season." If he wasn't in the mountains, he was on the water with one of his best friends, Joe McMenamy, slaying the walleye.

Steven will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor and kind heart. His generosity will be greatly missed and never forgotten, as he was one of the kindest gentlemen we have ever met.

Steven was preceded in death by his mother, Gladys King; grandparents Henry and Ros Savageau and Samuel and Frances King and great-nephew Connor Woods.

He survived by wife Jo Suden-King of Great Falls; father John "Jack" King of Fargo; siblings Jeffrey (Anne) King of Hot Springs Village, Ark.; Pam (Tim) Oster of Pottsboro, Texas, Bradley (Becky) King of Fargo, Alan (Gail) King of Mandan, N.D.; stepchildren Jackie Suden (Todd Brownlee) of Great Falls, Randy (Tami) Suden of Great Falls; granddaughters Valyn Brownlee and Grace and Brooklyn Suden; brothers-in-law Ross (Robin) Beyl, Kent (Scoot) Beyl, and Scott (Betty) Beyl; sister-in-law Cheryl Winship (Larry); mother-in-law Doris Rector of Great Falls; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews and a very special hunting companion, Lily.
