William Gotchey Obituary

William Stephen Gotchey (Bill) died on Friday, May 13, 2022. He was born on July 13, 1954 in Montgomery, Alabama, the son of the late Robert Emmett Gotchey and Albarose Gamel Gotchey. His father's career in the Air Force took the family to multiple locations throughout Bill's childhood, including Texas, Arizona, and England, before the family settled in Colorado Springs. Bill graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1981, and worked in finance for a number of years before getting his master's degree in special education from Radford University in 1992. He then worked for many years as a teacher and administrator in the Colorado education system before retiring in 2010. Bill will be remembered for his big warm heart, his sense of fun and adventure, and his strength and perseverance. He loved connecting with his many friends and family members; traveling (all 50 U.S. states and all seven continents); playing competitive sports and games; scoping out the stock market; coaching youth sports teams; giving bear hugs; and above all sharing more than 42 years with his beloved wife, Shelley Smith Gotchey. He was predeceased by his parents and his sister Theresa Rhone. He is survived by Shelley; by their children, Andrew Mithun (Jessica) and Sarah Mithun; his sisters Marjorie Serge and Barbara McIntyre; brothers Matthew (Julie) and Timothy (Sara); sister-in-law Leslie Baldwin (Daniel); brothers-in-law Frank LaBoone and Richard Smith (Steve Behrens); and long-time friend Josh Apodaca (Callie). Currently, there is no memorial service planned. Memorial contributions may be sent in his honor to the Greeley Dream Team, Doctors Without Borders, Planned Parenthood, or the charity of your choice.
