Leigh Anderson Romans, a dedicated educator and cherished member of her community, passed away on March 26, 2026, in Glade Spring, Virginia. She was born on December 23, 1958, in Marion, Virginia to the late Randall Sherwood Anderson and Ozena Ella Wolfe Anderson. Leigh lived a life marked by devotion to her family, her faith, and her vocation as an educator.
Leigh’s early years were shaped by her upbringing in Marion and her education through Marion Senior High School, from which she graduated in 1977. She furthered her academic pursuits by earning a Bachelor’s degree from Emory & Henry College, followed by a Master’s degree from Radford College. These achievements laid the foundation for her lifelong commitment to teaching and counseling within the Washington County School system.
Over an impressive career spanning 34 years, Leigh enriched the lives of countless students. She taught science classes at Patrick Henry High School and served as a guidance counselor at both Abingdon High School and Damascus, where her compassionate spirit and dedication made a lasting impact. Her leadership extended to her role as assistant principal and counselor at Wallace Middle School. Even after retirement, Leigh’s passion for education endured as she continued to substitute teach, driven by her love for the students and the school community.
Leigh’s personality was as vibrant as her professional contributions. Known for her sweet demeanor and ever-present smile, she was both compassionate and humorous—a true spitfire with a zest for life. She delighted in cooking and found joy in tending to her flower garden, a pastime that brought her peace and satisfaction. Alongside her beloved husband, Robert Romans, with whom she shared 44 years of marriage, she cherished the companionship of their many dogs and cats—over 40 pets throughout the years—reflecting her deep affection for animals.
Her faith was a cornerstone of her life, guiding her actions and inspiring those around her. Leigh worked diligently and treasured every moment spent side by side with Rob, supporting and encouraging one another through life’s journey.
Leigh is survived by her loving husband, Robert Romans; her sister, Carolyn Foster; one nephew; and several cousins. She also counted special friends Heather, Joel, Lauren, Mark, Cindy, Gail, and James among her close circle. Their lives, like so many others, were touched by Leigh’s kindness and generosity.
The family will receive friends for visitation on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Farris Funeral Service – Main Street Chapel, located at 427 E Main St, Abingdon, VA 24210. A funeral service honoring Leigh’s life will follow on the same day at 7:00 p.m., with Rev. Paul Griffith officiating.

Leigh Anderson Romans leaves behind a legacy of warmth, dedication, and unwavering love that will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her presence will be deeply missed, but her spirit endures in the hearts of her family, friends, and the many students she so lovingly guided.
