Carol Rotter Obituary

Rotter, Carol

Carol (nee Alft) Rotter, age 82 of Shawano, formerly of West DePere, passed away peacefully among family on Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Emerald Bay Assisted Living in Hobart, Wisconsin.

Carol was born on January 14, 1934 in Marion, Wisconsin, a daughter of the late Lyle and Iva (Verg) Alft. Carol attended St. James Lutheran Grade School, and graduated from Shawano High School in 1952. On August 29, 1953 she was united in marriage to Robert Rotter at St. James Lutheran Church in Shawano. The couple lived in Shawano until 1967 when they relocated to West DePere. The couple moved to Shawano Lake where they built their forever home on a special property. Their Shawano Lake home served as a gathering place for family and friends in all seasons.

Carol was a homemaker, wife, and mother to her children throughout her life. She loved a good game of bridge with her friends from Shawano and DePere. She was an avid golfer and would take frequent trips with her husband in the winter to play golf. Carol liked to travel, especially to see her daughter, Chris. One of Carol and Bob's travel highlights was a trip to Spain in celebration of their 50th wedding anniversary. Her family is extremely grateful for their last Christmas shared with her at Steve and Sue's house. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her husband, Robert, of Shawano; her children, Steven (Susan) Rotter of Green Bay, and Christine (Robert) Skrotsky of New Bern, NC; her grandchildren, Jennifer (Paul) Thompson, Allison (Lucas) Weiner, and Matthew (Amanda) Rotter, all of Green Bay; her great-grandchildren, Madyson, Braydon, Lili, Gabi, Aubree, Laurel, Ellie, and Ava; and one great-great-granddaughter, Charlotte. She is further survived by her siblings, DeLail Alft of Green Bay, Fern Henke, and Jean Laehn of Tigerton; brother-in-law, George (Janet) Rotter of Oshkosh; sister-in-law, Marion (Earl) Plass of Kimberly; and many nieces and nephews whom she loved dearly. Carol was preceded in death by her brother-in-law, Henry Henke; her sister-in-law, Ardis Alft; and her sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Caroline and Henry Hess.

A memorial service for Carol Rotter will be held on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 4:00 PM at Mickelson Funeral Service of Shawano. Reverend Doctor Timm Griffin will officiate. Relatives and friends may call at Mickelson Funeral Service on Thursday from 2:00 PM until the time of service. Inurnment will take place in the Lake Drive Cemetery, Town of Wescott, in the spring.

In lieu of plants and flowers, the family requests memorials be made in Carol's name to the Salvation Army.
