Gary DeNamur Obituary

Gary L. DeNamur

Sturgeon Bay - Gary L. DeNamur, 74, of Sturgeon Bay, was called Home with the sure confidence of his eternal salvation on Friday afternoon, October 5, 2018. He was born on January 18, 1944 and grew up in Algoma. Gary and Marilyn Kiehnau were married on October 31, 1964 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport. They first resided in Kenosha where he attended Kenosha Technical Institute and worked at the American Motors assembly plant. Upon earning an associate degree in accounting, he accepted a position as an Accountant at Palmer Johnson in Sturgeon Bay. He held similar positions throughout his career with Evergreen Nursery, Sturgeon Bay Sand & Gravel, Eames Farm, and the Sunshine House.

Gary found strength and comfort in his Christian faith. He served in many roles on the council and school board for Zion Ev. Lutheran Church and School, St. John's Lutheran Church in Valmy, and Mt. Zion Lutheran Church in Kenosha. He was also a well-respected leader in the community. He shared his professional experience and enjoyed the camaraderie of others while serving on boards at Door County Memorial Hospital, Sunshine House, and most recently as a member of the Sturgeon Bay Utilities Commission.

Gary enjoyed getting to know others - often via a shared passion for cars. He was a longtime member of the North East Wisconsin Corvair Association. His summer calendar was always filled with car shows and events - many of which he helped to organize or staff.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Marilyn; sons, Michael (Karla Pankratz) and David (Terri Hawkey); daughter, Sarah; grandsons, Christopher Ray and Charlie Basch; brother, Roy (Cheryl); sister-in-law, Berdella (Leon) Stephenson; godchildren, nieces, a nephew, and so many other extended family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald and Ruby (Berger) DeNamur; and sister, Carolyn Ott.

Gary's life will be honored with a funeral service held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 8, 2018 at Zion Ev. Lutheran Church in West Jacksonport with Pastor Peter Lindemann officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Relatives and friends may visit with Gary's family at Huehns Funeral Home in Sturgeon Bay on Sunday, October 7, 2018 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. A devotion will conclude the visitation at 7:00 p.m. THERE WILL BE NO VISITATION PRIOR TO THE FUNERAL SERVICE AT CHURCH ON MONDAY.

Memorials may be given in Gary's honor for the Zion Ev. Lutheran Church, Zion Ev. Lutheran School, Sunshine House, or the Belgian Heritage Center.

"Our family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all who were involved in the care of Gary and all who supported us on this journey."
