I served with with Carl, in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967. He was a squad leader in "D" (Delta) Company of the First Battalion 9th Marines -- a unit that saw a great deal of action. Ultimately during that period Carl was made leader of a platoon of Marines consisting of three squads. Carl was a strong leader and was highly respected by those he led. He was calm and confident under fire and his Marines admired and trusted him. We were very fortunate to have him and are diminished by his passing. Semper Fidelis Steve Snyder, Delta Company
