Larry Ray Pickels

1957 - 2025

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Larry Ray Pickels, who left us suddenly on Sunday, Aug. 10, 2025, at the age of 67. Born on Sept. 8, 1957, in Madison, Fla., Larry was a true son of his hometown. He lived a full life as a devoted father, son and friend, and his legacy will continue through his children, Brenton and Courtney Pickels.
Larry was a proud corrections officer with the Department of Corrections, serving his community with steadfast dedication. Outside of work, he was known for his love of fishing, enjoying rides in his side-by-side and cheering on his favorite racing events. Most importantly, he treasured the time spent with his grandchildren, creating lasting memories that will be cherished by all who knew him.
He is survived by three children: Brenton (Kasie) Pickels, Courtney (James) Pickels and Chris (Katie) Terry; two sisters, Laverne (Alvin) Smith and Ann (Dewayne) Buchanan; two grandchildren, Eva Pickels and Lyndon Pickels; three nephews: Allen Smith, Brandon Buchanan and William Buchanan; as well as numerous other relatives and friends. Larry was preceded in death by his parents, Dorman and Eithelean Pickels and two brothers, Gerald Webb and Dale Pickels.
A celebration of Larry's life will be held at the American Legion in Cherry Lake at a later date. The date and time will be published upon scheduling. We invite all family and friends to come together to share stories, laughter and honor the memory of a wonderful man. Larry will be missed dearly, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of his loved ones. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to the American Legion in Cherry Lake, Fla., in honor of Larry's memory.
