NEWPORT - Richard "Allen" Ottinger, 74, loving husband and father passed away Sunday.
Allen was born and raised in Parrottsville. He graduated Parrottsville High School in 1967 where he was an avid basketball player and class officer.
After high school, he attended and graduated East Tennessee State University with a degree in Industrial Engineering. During his time in college, he served his country, as he, trained and worked as an army medic for the Army Reserves. His career as an Industrial Engineer for Magnavox/Phillips, Five Rivers in Greeneville lasted for 32 years. In addition, he worked as a farmer on his and his family farms all his life in tobacco and beef cattle.
He was an active, lifelong member of Salem Lutheran Church where he was the first person baptized in the new building and taught Sunday school.
In his retirement, he enjoyed being outdoors, his family being a Papaw, and attending church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis D. Ottinger and Mary Dee Ottinger.
He is survived by his wife: Janie Cline Ottinger of Parrottsville' his daughter: Haley Ottinger (Eathan) Gentry; granddaughter: Ellie Jane Gentry of Jefferson City; his son: Brad (Stephanie) Ottinger and grandchildren: Breanna Ottinger, Braden Ottinger, Brent Ottinger, and Bailee Ottinger of Jacksonville, North Carolina. He will also be missed by his loving pets, Molly and Roxy.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 p.m. Thursday at Manes Funeral Home. The funeral will following at 7 p.m. in Manes Chapel.
A graveside service will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Salem Lutheran Church. The funeral and service will be conducted by Pastor Norman Deal.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Salem Lutheran Church.
